Murphy is recruiting for a Senior SHES Advisor
Murphy is recruiting for a Senior SHES Advisor to join our growing Infrastructure team, delivering water infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects in partnership with Thames Water, as part of the AMP8 framework.
Murphy is a long-standing delivery partner to leading water clients across the UK and Ireland, including Thames Water, Severn Trent, Northern Ireland Water, Yorkshire Water, SES Water, Bristol Water, South East Water, and Uisce Éireann, where we operate over 25 facilities under full DBOM contracts.
A day in the life of a Murphy Senior SHES Advisor
- Advise and support Managers and Supervisors to discharge their responsibilities for the SHES of employees and others to whom they have a duty as defined by Legislation and Company Procedures.
- Disseminate information issued by Murphy SHES to relevant employees.
- Participate in the work of committees and joint consultations affecting the workforce as required.
- Ensure that all personnel are aware of their statutory duties and responsibilities, and to provide advice as and when required.
- Support site management teams to ensure compliance with all requirements stipulated in the SHES Plans.
- Carry out regular assurance activities of sites and work places to determine whether work is being carried out in accordance with Company Policy, Procedures and the relevant Statutory Provisions and as planned.
- Lead and participate in accident/incident investigations in accordance with the Company procedure and, analysing all data, making recommendations to avoid any reoccurrences.
- Collate & review Business / Contract SHES statistics in a timely manner and submit to the SHES Management & SHES function for reporting purposes.
- Review SHES statistics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Develop and implement SHES campaigns and improvement plans in agreement with the SHES Management.
- Review SHES plans and ensure that they cover sufficient identification of risks and mitigation, procedures and associated documentation and check compliance.
- Identify significant SHES issues for contracts / yards and help set-up contracts / yards to include appropriate controls.
- Identify any SHES consents / permits or exemptions that are required and ensure they are obtained.
- Maintain records as necessary to ensure compliance with Legislation, Company procedures and Contract Requirements.
- Provide reports, presentations, and information as directed by the Business / SHES Management.
- Carry out site inductions and other training as required.
- Support the Operational Unit / SHES Management in the delivery of the Audit Programme.
- Undertake internal and external audits as required.
- Providing input and review of pre-qualification, tender and SHES award submissions

- Previous experience in an H&S role
- Working knowledge of either water or civil engineering interfaces and practices, ideally have worked on large scale water/ civil projects.
- NEBOSH General Certificate
- CDM 2015 knowledge
- Knowledge of OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001
