Job Description
The Mission
The Engineering team’s mission is bold and clear: To build a technology ecosystem that serves as a "poster-child" for how enterprise businesses leverage the Shopify ecosystem to achieve exceptional results with agility, speed, and efficiency.
The Role
You are a specialist. While others work on backend integration, you live and breathe and own the Shopify ecosystem. You will work within the Engineering team to build a modular, high-performance storefront theme.
Your code is what our members interact with every day, you create the best practice version for others to work with. You will work closely with UX/UI designers to translate high-fidelity designs into pixel-perfect reality, and with Product Managers to ensure those designs are built as reusable components that empower our commercial teams to move fast.
Job Requirements
- Several years of production Shopify Plus work, including Functions or checkout extensibility shipped to real traffic.
- Deep Liquid and theme architecture (OS 2.0, theme blocks, Section Rendering API).
- Admin and Storefront GraphQL, metaobjects, and Shopify CLI app and theme workflows.
- Markets for multi-market pricing and currency, and Shopify Flow for commerce automation.
- Strong TypeScript and modern CSS.
- Fluency with AI-assisted development (tools like Copilot, Cursor and Claude), and the judgement to know where it helps and where it does not.
- A track record of spotting the edge case before it becomes an incident: quantity abuse, currency, express checkout paths.
- Bonus if you have worked on a membership or subscription business, where pricing and entitlement depend on who the customer is.
Job Responsibilities
- Own how membership shows up across the entire storefront: member versus guest pricing and the savings on every product, collection, PDP, cart and checkout, driven by metafields with Shopify as the source of truth. This is the central engineering problem of the role because Shopify has no native per-product member price.
- Build the join and upgrade moments that grow the business: the membership value proposition in context, “add BP+ to unlock this price” in cart and at checkout, and a smooth path from guest to member and from Starter to full membership.
- Protect the price server-side. Enforce membership entitlements at checkout with Functions and Checkout UI Extensions so pricing, welcome gifts and member-only offers cannot be gamed, and defend the edge cases before they become incidents: quantity abuse, express checkout paths, currency.
- Build the member account and subscription surfaces with Customer Account Extensions: membership status, renewal date, benefits, and the manage, update payment, pause and cancel flows that our subscription stack drives. These surfaces carry our renewal revenue, so they have to be reliable.
- Represent session and membership state accurately everywhere, member or guest, logged in or not, membership in basket, so the right price and the right experience always show.
- Architect the theme with OS 2.0 sections, theme blocks and the Section Rendering API, and model content with metaobjects and metafields, so commercial teams launch landing pages, promotions and bundles without an engineer.
- Design custom commerce logic with Shopify Functions (discounts, cart transform, promotions/bundles, validation), upgrade-safe, and know when a native feature, an app or Flow beats custom code.
- Use AI tooling as a genuine multiplier, to scaffold, refactor and ship faster, while owning every line you release. You review, test and understand AI-generated code to the same bar as your own, and help the team build good habits around it.
- Own Core Web Vitals. Optimise CSS, JavaScript and asset loading, and use progressive enhancement so the site feels instant, on the web and inside our iOS app WebView.
- Make sure storefront events fire reliably through the Web Pixels API, since accurate tracking underpins how the whole business measures performance.
- Make multi-market (UK, US, soon Ireland) work correctly through Markets: pricing, currency, content, images and inventory.
- Integrate third-party apps, search, reviews and consent, cleanly, and work with Finance and integration engineers so orders carry the data reporting and the ERP need.
- Introduce and enforce best engineering practice, and own safe releases: CI/CD, environments, version control, testing and rollback.
- Review code, set standards, and gently mentor the team to level up.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
