Senior Engineer(Track)
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Senior Track Engineer to join our Consulting Rail team in Derby/Manchester/Birmingham/York and become part of our vibrant, inclusive community that celebrates our differences and makes a real impact across the UK.

About the Team
As a Senior Engineer on some of the UK’s most significant and complex rail infrastructure projects including Wales & Borders, we are proud to support major programmes such as Northern Powerhouse Rail, Eastern Routes Partnership, Northwest & Central Framework, Core Valley Lines, Trans-Pennine Route Upgrade, and Cardiff Crossrail. Our in-house engineering team delivers design solutions across all project lifecycle stages and disciplines, driving improved connectivity, enhancing passenger journeys, and shaping the future of rail safety and efficiency.

Our Engineers play an important part within the Consulting Rail Signalling team, which deliver innovative and complex designs to our clients including Network Rail, Transport for Wales, and others. As a Graduate Engineer, you will provide effective support and assistance to your design team on a variety of rail design schemes while playing a key role on projects.
Responsibilities include:
- To work in a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working unsupervised, and supervising more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks.
- The preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings, and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost, and programme. Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions.
- Liaising with client and supplier representatives at the peer level, attending progress meetings, responding to queries, etc.
- Managing a small, locally based, single-discipline technical team and taking responsibility for the delivery of the workload.
- Contributing to the preparation of bids and the general work-winning function.
- Working on site, either on a visiting basis or in a full-time but temporary role, and including out-of-hours working.
- Assuming the role of people manager when required by the business.

What you will bring to us:
- A Degree/Masters qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Relevant experience in civil engineering within the rail sector, the ability to work in a commercial and customer-focused way, which achieves programme, meets performance targets, and generates income.
- Be confident to work under minimum supervision and competent to check the work of others and supervise less experienced or junior staff.
- A good understanding of DMRB, other national standards, best practice guidance, local standards, etc.
- A good understanding of the CDM regulations and their relevance to Rail design.
- The ability to support the preparation of briefs for fee quotes for the delivery of services when required.
- Can deliver on time, within budget, and to the quality required.
- Keep up to date with industry best practice and where appropriate, apply best practice within the team.
