Job Description

The Senior Simulator Engineer (SSE) will be based at Burgess Hill, West Sussex and will report directly to the Training Centre Maintenance Manager (TCMM).

The SSE role involves the day-to-day running and proactive maintenance of up to four commercial Full Flight Simulator’s (FFS) and ground training devices based at our Burgess Hill Training Facility.

The SSE will provide leadership and training of more Junior Technicians, as well as communication with Flight Crews and Instructor Pilots on a daily basis. This role also acts as the primary lead during a shift, with a focus on the management of others and the resolution of technical issues.

The SSE will be required, in the exercise of their daily duties, to comply with regulatory requirements and work in accordance with the procedures applicable to their tasks. Any potential for non-compliance or the introduction of a hazard or risk will need to be reported to the TCMM, as well as recommendations for improvements to procedure or process.

The SSE is also required to make themselves familiar with, and comply with, all Quadrant Systems LTD Health and Safety procedures and complete all courses in a reasonable time when requested. The SSE will familiarize themselves with risk assessments, method statements, COSHH procedures, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and so forth. They will ensure that the more junior SimTech's are familiar with and adhere to the appropriate regulations and procedures.

The SSE will be trained in alignment with their role and responsibilities as per the Company training matrix. They shall be trained in the Company Safety Management System to the level defined on the training requirements matrix for their role, and any specific health and safety responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks on the simulators and associated simulator systems and review/update the procedures in discussion with the TCMM.
  • Take the lead in diagnosing and correcting problems on the simulators and associated simulator systems.
  • Utilize the maintenance management system to record and track maintenance activities.
  • Take on the role of simulator coordinator to include checking QTGs, attending subjective flyouts, authority evaluations and ensuring the simulator condition is maintained to a high standard.
  • Perform secondary duties e.g. calibrations, tool inspections etc.
  • Perform visual alignments.
  • Carry out repairs in the workshop to include soldering and crimping.
  • Check Qualification Test Guide (QTG) results and mark them up.
  • Ensure QSL quality management system processes are adhered to.
  • Provide customer service support and address customer needs in a timely manner.
  • Perform housekeeping functions to maintain the simulators as required.
  • Perform logistics duties, including parts received, repair, and testing/validation.
  • Perform administrative tasks as required.
  • Be familiar with Part ORA and CS-FSTD(A) regulations.
  • Ad hoc building maintenance duties.

Please note this list is not exhaustive. The SSE role involves working a variable work pattern which may be changed at any time to meet the Company and customer needs. Flexibility in the approach to working is a key requirement for this role. The role covers currently a 24 x 7 working pattern.

The role is being offered as full time or part time with the following shift patterns:

  • Full time: 4 on, 4 off
  • Part time within a job share: 4 on, 12 off

Essential Knowledge and Experience

  • Detailed understanding of Electrical / Electronic & Avionic systems.
  • Detailed understanding of fault finding principles and corrective measures techniques.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic motion and control loading systems.
  • Working knowledge of electrical motion and control loading systems.
  • Detailed knowledge of simulator visual systems including Rockwell Collins and FSI systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of hardware, fault finding and repair.
  • Knowledge and understanding of simulation software systems.
  • Proactive completion of Preventative and Routine Maintenance activities.
  • Planning and Approval of Qualification Test Guide (QTG) schedule.
  • Development of QSL processes providing improved efficiency and maintenance delivery.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience of working on Boeing and/or Airbus simulators particularly B737 & A320 simulators.
  • Experience of CAE, FSI and/or Sim Industries, TRU, L3 Training Devices.
  • Previous Leadership experience.
  • Experience gained in a customer support or client facing role.

Desirable Qualifications

  • HNC/HND in aircraft related discipline.
  • HNC/HND in Electrical & Electronic Engineering.
