Job Overview
Are you an experienced Emergency Department nurse with a passion for leadership and delivering exceptional patient care? We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Sister / Charge Nurse to join our busy Emergency Department team.
In this key leadership role, you will provide visible clinical leadership, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality care in a fast-paced environment. You will support and develop staff, promote best practice, drive quality improvement, and contribute to workforce development and staff wellbeing.
We are looking for a confident and compassionate leader with strong emergency nursing experience, excellent decision-making skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement. You will play a vital role in shaping patient experience, supporting colleagues, and helping our department deliver the highest standards of care.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for an experienced and motivated nurse to provide visible leadership within the department, supporting high standards of patient care and staff development. You will lead on nursing initiatives, oversee the day-to-day management of the department, and support the delivery of Trust and local priorities.
The successful candidate will supervise and mentor staff, support students and junior colleagues, and contribute to service improvement through audit, quality, and risk management activities. You will play a key role in promoting evidence-based practice, implementing improvements in patient care, and supporting the ongoing development of the nursing workforce.
This is an excellent opportunity for a nurse looking to further develop their leadership and management skills within a supportive and forward-thinking team.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Post-registration training in speciality area.
- Demonstrates evidence of ongoing continuous professional development
- NMC registration
Desirable criteria
- Post-registration qualification/ courses – preferably in specialty area.
- Leadership module
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Understanding of NMC Code of Practice and requirements of it for the practice & behaviour
- At least 2 years previous relevant clinical and management experience at Band 6 or above in an Emergency setting.
- Demonstrable experience of effective management of staff and taking charge of ward / unit

- Evidence of involvement in service users’ advocacy and complaints resolution.

Skills
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates evidence of well-developed clinical practice. Able to advise on and implement improvements to the quality and efficiency for patients in the Unit.
- Able to accept responsibility for working under own initiative within boundaries of role
- Able to take charge and delegate duties effectively
