Job Description
Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Band 7 to lead and manage our 28 bedded Cardiology ward. The ward provides specialised care for longer stay cardiology patients with conditions such as heart failure, valvular disease, ischaemic heart disease and endocarditis.
We are looking for a highly motivated, dynamic individual with the ability to enable and empower their team. Strong leadership and performance management is an integral aspect of this band 7 role with patient experience and patient safety underpinning all aspects of the ward running efficiently and effectively. You will be responsible for the nursing establishment, managing attendance, appraisals, mandatory training and competency assessments as well as the operational running of the ward and all it encompasses. As the lead for the area you will need to provide assurance that high standards of care are met and sustained for every patient, every time.
This post is a 12 month fixed term contract / secondment opportunity.

The jobholder is responsible for developing and maintaining a ward or department’s philosophy that has the patient at the centre of compassionate safe and quality care delivery. Through managing the administrative and financial aspects of the ward, the jobholder will ensure cost effective use of resources.
Criteria
What you will bring to the role
- Registered Nurse (RN Adult for adult clinical areas or RN Child for children’s areas) (Level 1 or 2)
- Recognised teaching/assessing qualification
- Evidence of effective professional and leadership development
- Willing to undergo training as necessary
- Extensive post registration experience
- Significant experience within a leadership role or equivalent
- Experience of managing and leading a team
- Experience in service development and/or change management
- Experience in audit & standard setting
- Current issues in health and social care
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Ability to organise and prioritise own and others workload
- Skills and knowledge required to lead and develop team members
- Positive approach to change and capable of lateral thinking
