Experienced High Dependency/Critical Care Nurse Opportunity
We are excited to announce a new opportunity for an experienced High Dependency/Critical Care Nurse to join our dedicated team as a band 7 Senior Sister/Senior Charge Nurse in our world class Adult Critical Care Unit at St Bartholomew’s Hospital.
About the Unit
HDU is a 12 bedded unit caring for complex cardiothoracic surgical, aortovascular, thoracic surgery, complex cardiology, endocrine and breast level 2 patients. We have one of the busiest Heart Attack Centres in Europe, ECMO and Oncology patients within our specialist centre. We have 50 critical care beds across 4 areas. The High Dependency Unit (HDU) is a fast-paced and an integral part of the critical care service.
Responsibilities
- Must be able to work a mixture of long days, bank holidays, and nights to meet service requirements.
- Provide professional nursing leadership and clinical oversight across a range of services within HDU and ensuring high standards of care.
- Coordinate and support patient pathways, while offering guidance and support to patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
- To provide the highest standard of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualised, holistic patient care in conjunction with the inter-professional team.
- Act as a proficient practitioner in HDU/critical care, a professional role model, and clinical teacher.
- Provide effective mentorship and supervision, participating in the education and training of nursing and non-nursing staff.
- Take charge of the High Dependency Unit as required, liaising closely with the Matron with continuing responsibility.

Requirements
- Demonstrate exceptional organisational skills, confidence in working collaboratively with colleagues at all levels and across professional groups, as well as the ability to work independently.
- Lead and manage staff alongside contributing to service development, education, quality improvement initiatives, audits, and research projects in a fast-paced and rewarding environment.
