Help us make a difference as a Senior Site Chemist at our site in Atherstone (CV9 1JG)

A quick look at the role.

You will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations. Whilst giving the highest priority to Safety, Health and Environmental goals, you will analyse and improve operational efficiencies, maximise financial performance, develop and deliver customer service excellence for external and internal clients, develop the potential of the Transfer Station through market-driven innovation, and manage the performance and development of personnel; all demonstrated through the site's operational KPIs.

Your core responsibilities.

  • Visually lead, develop and improve the health, safety and environmental culture, reducing incidents and increasing reporting. Focus on process and human safety by implementing and monitoring adherence to rules and lead indicators in line with the Balanced Business Plan, Working Safety Tracker and individual performance targets.
  • Drive operational excellence across the site in compliance with its permit, licence, discharge consent and all other legal requirements. This includes delivering no EA CAR scores from site visits, no major breaches of discharge consent, no reportable emissions and no waste stock held on site for more than six months.
  • Deliver customer service excellence by reviewing and deciding on treatment methods, ensuring bulk and packaged goods sales enquiries are processed and quoted in line with KPIs. Review site bookings to ensure sufficient capacity, labour and resources are available, highlighting any potential issues to the Site Manager immediately. Ensure the site operates efficiently by removing non-value-adding activities and improving processes.
  • Control costs for treatment, disposal, labour, maintenance and sundries to ensure the site meets its budgetary requirements, as set out in the monthly P&L review and KPIs, with a focus on consistently achieving and exceeding the site's annual fiscal budget.
  • Drive the cultural transformation needed to champion a team-based working environment where operator input is valued, suggestions are evaluated and improvements are implemented.
  • Manage and control the site's bay logs, carrying out internal audits and ensuring records remain accurate for EA and HSE requirements, as well as cost allocation.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
