Job Description
Metlen Energy & Metals is seeking an experienced Senior Site Engineer to support our M Renewables Division across the United Kingdom. This is an exciting opportunity to take a key technical and site leadership role in the delivery of large-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects and contribute to the UK’s clean energy transition.
As a Senior Site Engineer, you will provide technical leadership and day-to-day engineering oversight throughout the construction, commissioning, and handover phases of renewable energy projects. You will work closely with the Project Manager, Construction Manager, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, and internal engineering teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, to the required quality standards, within programme, and in accordance with contractual and engineering requirements.
Your role will encompass:
- Provide technical leadership and engineering oversight for the on-site delivery of Solar PV and BESS projects from construction through commissioning and handover.
- Lead and coordinate daily site engineering activities across civil, electrical, and mechanical workstreams, ensuring effective interfaces between disciplines.
- Act as a key technical point of contact for subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and project stakeholders, providing guidance and resolving engineering and construction issues.
- Review, interpret, and approve the implementation of engineering drawings, specifications, method statements, ITPs, technical documentation, and construction deliverables.
- Monitor construction activities against approved design, programme, specifications, contractual requirements, and applicable UK standards.
- Take ownership of site engineering issues, coordinating technical queries, RFIs, design clarifications, non-conformances, and corrective actions through to resolution.
- Monitor and report site progress against key programme milestones, identifying potential delays, constraints, and interface issues and supporting the development of mitigation plans.
- Coordinate with the Project and Construction Management teams to ensure effective sequencing and integration of civil, electrical, mechanical, and commissioning activities.
- Lead and support site inspections, testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning, punch-list close-out, and project handover activities.
- Ensure that construction works are executed in accordance with approved designs, quality requirements, inspection and test plans, and project specifications.
- Work closely with the QA/QC and HSE teams to maintain high standards of workmanship, quality assurance, environmental compliance, and site safety.
- Review and support the implementation of Risk Assessments, Method Statements, Inspection & Test Plans, Permits to Work, and other construction control documentation.
- Identify construction risks and technical constraints proactively and work with the project team to develop practical and cost-effective solutions.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive site records, including daily reports, progress records, RFIs, technical queries, inspection records, test documentation, NCRs, punch lists, and as-built information.
- Support the review and acceptance of subcontractor deliverables, ensuring compliance with project requirements and agreed quality standards.
- Participate in coordination meetings, progress reviews, technical workshops, and site meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide technical input into construction planning, sequencing, resource requirements, and short-term look-ahead programmes.
- Support the Project Manager and Construction Manager with technical assessments, progress reporting, risk management, and resolution of site-related commercial and contractual matters.
- Promote a strong safety-first culture and ensure that all site activities comply with company policies, project requirements, and applicable UK HSE legislation and regulations.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and share lessons learned across projects within the M Renewables portfolio.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
