HS2 Senior Site Manager

HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway, is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Whether onsite or office-based, all colleagues have a key part to play in delivering this critical transport infrastructure project.

Current Opportunity: Senior Site Manager

Location: Based in Coventry - the South Region comprises Sublots 2B, 2A and 1A Long Itchington Wood. It stretches for approximately 39.2km from Finham Brook to Southam through a mixture of rural and suburban landscapes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the safe day-to-day delivery of construction activities across allocated project areas.
  • Manage site teams, subcontractors, and supply chain partners to achieve programme, quality, and safety objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with BBV, HS2, and statutory health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Coordinate construction activities and interfaces between multiple disciplines and stakeholders.
  • Monitor progress against programme milestones and implement recovery actions where required.
  • Review construction methodologies, permits, risk assessments, and work package plans.
  • Drive quality assurance, inspections, and handover activities to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and site documentation whilst promoting continuous improvement.

Essential Experience:

  • Previous experience as a Senior Site Manager, Site Manager, or equivalent leadership role on major construction projects.
  • Strong track record managing subcontractors and multidisciplinary site teams.
  • Experience delivering commercial building, infrastructure, or large-scale construction projects.
  • Good knowledge of construction health, safety, and environmental legislation and best practice.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Experience managing programme delivery, quality, and construction performance.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Valid CSCS card and relevant site management qualifications (SMSTS essential).

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience delivering commercial fit-out, façade, cladding, or external envelope packages.
  • Experience working on large, complex, or multidisciplinary construction programmes.
