About The Role

A main contractor requires a Senior Site Manager in Exeter on a permanent basis, offering £55,000 to £65,000 plus package. The successful candidate takes charge of site operations across major schemes in education, commercial, industrial, healthcare and leisure. Duties include coordinating subcontractors, upholding safety standards and ensuring high-quality delivery. Applicants should bring a strong main contracting background and proven experience leading large-scale projects as the number one on site. This position suits someone with sound knowledge of construction methods, programme management and health and safety legislation. Strong leadership, communication and organisational abilities are essential. Working full time, the post-holder reports to senior management and drives projects from inception through to handover.

The successful candidate will have a strong main contracting background and experience leading large-scale projects as the number one on site, taking responsibility for site operations, subcontractor coordination and the successful delivery of high-quality schemes.

The Role

  • Take overall responsibility for site operations, ensuring projects are delivered safely, to programme and to the required quality standards.
  • Lead and coordinate site teams, direct labour and subcontractors, ensuring efficient sequencing of works and effective resource management.
  • Monitor construction programmes, identify potential delays and implement solutions to maintain progress.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety, quality assurance and environmental compliance.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager and commercial team to manage costs, variations and project risks.
  • Coordinate site logistics, temporary works, inspections and the successful handover of completed works.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, consultants and supply chain partners, driving a collaborative approach to project delivery.

About You

  • Proven experience as a Senior Site Manager within a main contractor environment.
  • Experience acting as the number one on site on large-scale multimillion pound construction projects.
  • A background in commercial construction, with refurbishment experience also beneficial.
  • Strong leadership, organisational and technical skills.
  • Good commercial awareness and the ability to manage programme, quality and site resources effectively.
  • Valid SMSTS, CSCS and First Aid at Work certifications.
  • A relevant construction qualification, MCIOB membership advantageous and a full UK driving licence would be required.
