Help shape the future of Smart Buildings at Cordless Consultants.
As demand for our Smart Buildings consultancy continues to grow, we’re looking for an experienced consultant who can take ownership of projects from the outset and play an important role in developing our Smart capability and the people within it.
This is an opportunity to do more than deliver a defined technical specialism. You’ll work directly with clients and multidisciplinary design teams, lead complex projects and help turn ambitious ideas into practical, integrated technology environments.

For more than 30 years, we’ve helped some of the world’s most ambitious organisations understand, design and deliver technology for the built environment. Our work brings Smart, IT, AV, Security, data and the wider building environment together - creating places where people, technology and operations work as one.
Because we’re independent of manufacturers, platforms and integrators, our advice starts with the client’s objectives rather than a product catalogue.
THE OPPORTUNITY
You’ll take responsibility for Smart Buildings consultancy across the project lifecycle: understanding the ambition, developing the strategy, producing coordinated designs and guiding projects through procurement, delivery and operation.
You’ll also help lead the Smart function day to day. This will include managing and developing team members, maintaining the quality of our work and contributing to the continued development of our methods, services and market proposition.
You’ll have genuine influence: close enough to clients, projects and company leadership to help shape decisions, but supported by established expertise across the wider Cordless team.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Lead Smart Buildings projects and act as a trusted adviser to clients.
- Facilitate discovery sessions and workshops, turning business, user and operational needs into clear strategies and requirements.
- Develop Smart strategies, briefs, integration architectures, designs, specifications and supporting documentation.
- Connect building systems and data across areas such as occupancy, indoor environmental quality, energy, workplace experience, automation and operational performance.
- Coordinate Smart solutions with IT, AV, Security, MEP, architecture and other project disciplines.
- Manage project scope, programme, budget, risk and technical quality.
- Support procurement, tender evaluation, installation, testing, commissioning and handover.
- Explain complex subjects clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Line-manage, coach and develop Smart consultant team members
- Contribute to proposals, client relationships, presentations and the continued growth of the Smart practice.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We’re more interested in what you can own and deliver than in a prescribed number of years’ experience.
You’ll need:
- Strong practical knowledge of Smart Buildings, intelligent workplaces or closely related building technologies.
- Experience taking consultancy or design projects from early strategy into delivery.
- The confidence to lead client conversations, challenge assumptions constructively and make clear recommendations.
- An understanding of systems integration, data and the relationship between Smart technology, IT/OT infrastructure and building systems.
- Strong technical writing and design-documentation skills.
- The judgement to distinguish useful innovation from technology for technology’s sake.
- The ability to manage your own work while coordinating and assuring work delivered by others.
- An interest in developing people and helping build a growing capability.

Experience of workplace technology, building services, controls, PropTech, BIM, data analytics or systems integration would be valuable. You don’t need to fit one conventional career path if you can demonstrate the expertise and judgement the role requires.
HOW WE WORK
We work flexibly, combining time at home with time spent alongside colleagues in our London office and with clients and project teams. This is a collaborative consultancy role, so some travel and in-person project work will be required.
