Job Summary

This is a great opportunity to help save and improve lives using social media. You’ll be part of a team working to help educate and inform people about the benefits of blood, stem cell, and organ donation as well as helping to share positive stories from people who have been affected by it.

Working on exciting campaigns and leading on the day-to-day content, you will be the guardian of our reputation on social media and an expert on what works on our channels.

You’ll be part of a team working to modernise our blood donor sessions and change society’s behaviour towards organ donation.

Our Strategic Plan sets out how we can become the best organisation of this type in the world so that we can achieve our goal to save and improve more patient lives. Your influence will be central to our combined success.

From Head Office professionals, support teams, and drivers to scientists, clinicians, and research staff, we save and improve lives every day. We ensure that about 7,000 units of blood are provided to Hospitals in England and North Wales for patients every day and manage the NHS Organ Donor Register.

You will contribute to the planning, delivery, and evaluation of social media campaigns as part of the social media team, monitoring the effective application of our messages and content throughout the organisation across a wide range of channels promoting all forms of donation.

Main duties of the job

  • Build an engaged community via our current social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and X) who will become prospective ambassadors.
  • Develop plans for the use of upcoming social media accounts and monitor trends and new developments in social media.
  • Create and execute innovative and exciting social media and content campaigns that focus on recruiting and retaining blood donors and encourage people to make and register an informed decision regarding organ donation and share this with their family. This will include social-focused campaigns as well as using social media as part of integrated communications campaigns.
  • Develop new content ideas to help drive traffic to websites.
  • Plan and publish original, innovative, and accurate content copy, videos, and visuals that engages our target audiences around our areas of work/with our business objectives.
  • Manage a large and busy workload with changing demands and priorities.
  • Ensure that our social media communication is inspiring and talks regularly and positively about our values and objectives, including tracking and evaluation for social media and community channels.
  • Work with stakeholders, cross-organisational teams to understand their goals & objectives and work to support, implement, and measure activity.
  • Work with external agencies to support & implement campaign plans for the desired results. Including campaign planning, production, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Report back to stakeholders to demonstrate the effectiveness of social campaigns.
  • Aid in identification of influencers, both external and within our current donor base, working with Celebrity and Influencer Relationship Manager

You will be required to attend events or travel to other bases or locations as agreed and deemed necessary. You will be assigned a contractual base location at either Colindale or Tooting blood centre, which will be confirmed after the final interview and mutually agreed upon with the line manager.

About You

Experience and Knowledge

  • Significant experience of working in a social media role, preferably in a large, busy organisation or as part of an agency.
  • Experience of running B2C social media channels on behalf of a large busy organisation.
  • Experience of working in a campaign project team, taking responsibility for content creation and channel plans across multiple accounts management, including measuring and reporting on results.
  • Knowledge of coordination of social media editorial calendars and creating engaging content and understanding trends.
  • Experience of identifying, researching, producing, and editing social media content and adhering to a consistent tone of voice across social platforms.
  • Experience of working with social media page management software and tools, e.g., Hootsuite, Brandwatch, etc.
  • Significant experience of social platforms and how they can be deployed.
  • Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), or equivalent Systems.

Qualifications and Training

  • Degree or equivalent in digital communications, journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Short courses or training in the digital communications field.
  • Digital or Marketing qualification equivalent to post-graduate study or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrable commitment to continuous professional development and digital engagement such as blogging.
  • Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD).
