About the Role
Create written and visual content for the Guardian’s social platforms (primarily Instagram and TikTok), taking the lead on projects with the aim of engaging and informing a global audience.
- Commission and supervise daily news items and make final calls on videos and posts when required.
- Pitch ideas for social videos, in line with audience needs and editorial priorities.
- Review and edit scripts and video ensuring accuracy, quality and editorial standards and giving clear, constructive feedback.
- Build strong relationships with senior newsroom stakeholders and external partners.
- Make independent editorial decisions on story treatment, structure, and angles.
- Maintain exceptional standards of video verification, fact-checking and contextual accuracy across all published content to ensure it meets the Guardian’s editorial guidelines.
- Step in to refine or fix pieces as required before publication.
- Make confident editorial decisions on verification, copyright and legal risk, working with legal and rights teams where required.
- Use analytics to evaluate performance and refine social video strategy.
- Help establish and maintain best practice, visual style, and tone of voice for social promotion, posts and videos.
About You
- Deep understanding of how to make text, photos, graphics and video work together on social media.
- Proven track record of producing, shooting and editing videos for social media, with authoritative knowledge of industry-standard video equipment and post-production software.
- Strong writing skills with a flair for summarising long, complex information into engaging and concise copy.
- Ability to find and pitch original story ideas and concepts, with a demonstrable track record of creative and engaging storytelling across social platforms.
- Demonstrable experience of working with all major social platforms, underpinned by a nuanced understanding of each platform’s unique ecosystem, and how to optimise content performance for each platform.
- Deep understanding of the specific needs of social media audiences.
- Familiarity with content management systems and analytics of all major social media platforms.
- Strong design skills with ability to produce static social content using Adobe Creative Suite and Figma.
- Ideally you will have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to the role.

We operate in a hybrid environment working at least three days a week from our offices in King’s Cross in London.

The minimum salary for this NUJ position starts from £60,748 with a package commensurate with the skills, level of experience and responsibilities of the position.
