Cygnus Resilience, working in partnership with Minerva SRM, is seeking candidates to support the delivery of a major community and social risk monitoring project in West Africa for a global leader in the mining sector.
This is a senior analytical and reporting role requiring strong judgement, excellent writing skills, practical Africa field experience, and the ability to work confidently in both English and French. The role will suit an experienced practitioner who is comfortable operating in complex, fast-moving environments where information is incomplete, sensitive and often contested.
The role is UK-based, primarily home working, with periodic international travel.

The Role
The Senior Social Risk Analyst & Reporting Lead will lead the project’s analysis and reporting workstream. They will work closely with a Guinea-based National Coordinator and specialist technical partners to assess, interpret and integrate information from field reporting, geospatial analysis, imagery and open sources.

The role is responsible for turning diverse and often incomplete inputs into structured, decision-useful analysis. This includes testing the reliability of information, identifying emerging social and community risk trends, and producing clear, balanced reporting for a major international client.
This is not a junior research role. It requires an experienced analyst who understands how information is generated in field environments, how it can be shaped by local dynamics, and how to translate it into disciplined, objective and useful insight.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the analysis and reporting workstream for the project;
- Work closely with our Guinean National Coordinator to task, validate and interpret field reporting;
- Assess inputs from local associates, field contacts, open sources and geospatial/imagery partners;
- Identify emerging community, livelihood, land, labour, governance and security-related risks;
- Produce routine analytical reports, deliver oral client briefings and respond to client queries;
- Prepare directed inquiry notes and thematic analytical reports;
- Apply structured source evaluation and confidence grading;
- Clearly distinguish between verified fact, credible reports, analytical judgement and uncertainty;
- Contribute to the development of reporting frameworks, templates and methodologies;
- Ensure appropriate handling of sensitive information, including source protection and confidentiality considerations;
- Integrate GIS and imagery-derived insights into broader analytical outputs.
Candidate Profile
We are seeking a candidate with a strong balance of academic grounding and field experience in Africa. The successful candidate will have both:
- A well-developed intellectual understanding of African social, political or security dynamics, and
- Practical experience operating in African field environments.
We are not seeking purely academic candidates without field exposure, nor purely field-based practitioners without deeper analytical training. The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, analytically rigorous and field-tested.
Required Experience
- Substantial experience in social risk, political risk, security risk, human rights, community relations, conflict analysis, extractives, infrastructure or related fields in Africa;
- Direct field experience in Africa, ideally including Francophone West Africa;
- Experience working with locally sourced or field-generated information;
- Strong written English and the ability to produce structured, high-quality analytical reporting;
- Experience engaging with complex, sensitive or incomplete information;
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with in-country counterparts;
- Cultural awareness and sound judgement in diverse operating environments.

French Language Requirement
French language skills are essential. Candidates must be able to demonstrate a high degree of competence in both spoken and written French in a professional context. This includes the ability to engage with Francophone colleagues, interpret French-language material, and understand nuance in local reporting and communication.
Desirable Experience
- Experience in Guinea or Francophone West Africa;
- Experience in mining, extractives, rail, port or major infrastructure environments;
- Familiarity with social performance, ESG, grievance mechanisms or community engagement;
- Experience integrating GIS, satellite imagery or remote sensing into analysis;
- Experience producing reporting for corporate, government, NGO or international clients.
Contract Terms
This is a fixed-term employed role. The initial contract term will be aligned to the remaining duration of Cygnus’s current client engagement, which is expected to run for up to 12 months. The exact contract length will depend on the successful candidate’s start date. For example, if the candidate joins two months into the project, the initial contract term would be approximately 10 months. The client engagement may be extended for up to a further 12 months, subject to performance and client requirements. If the project is extended, the employment contract may also be extended by mutual agreement.

- Home working allowance: Reimbursed at HMRC flat rate

- Security screening: Appointment will be subject to references and background checks. Candidates holding SC or DV clearance should indicate this in their application
