Senior Social Worker - Children with Disabilities Service

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with disabilities and their families? Are you an experienced Social Worker ready to take the next step in your career, helping to shape practice and support colleagues to deliver outstanding outcomes? If so, Birmingham Children's Trust wants you!

At Birmingham Children's Trust, we are dedicated to providing outstanding care and support to children and families across Birmingham. Our mission is to ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive in a safe, nurturing environment. We are a dynamic and forward-thinking organisation, committed to innovation and excellence in social work practice.

As a Senior Social Worker within our Children with Disabilities Service, you will play a key role in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people with disabilities. Alongside managing a complex caseload, you will provide professional guidance and support to colleagues, model high-quality practice, and contribute to the ongoing development of the service.

You will work closely with children, families, carers and partner agencies to complete assessments, develop robust plans, manage risk and deliver effective interventions that improve outcomes. Our services are joined-up and child-centred, and you will develop strong partnerships with health services, education providers, police, voluntary organisations and other professionals to ensure children receive the right support at the right time.

About the Service:

The Children with Disabilities Service works with children and young people who have permanent disabilities that significantly impact on their day-to-day lives. We are a through service, meaning we stay with children and families throughout their journey with social care, completing assessments and providing ongoing support through Child in Need, Child Protection and Children in Care processes where required.

We are ambitious for our children and young people and are passionately committed to helping them achieve their full potential. We celebrate their achievements, promote their independence, and work alongside families to ensure children receive the support they need to thrive.

We are seeking a permanent, full-time Senior Social Worker for the team covering the East of the city.

The team is based at One Avenue Road, Aston, with ample free parking available at the rear of the office.

About You:

We are looking for an experienced, skilled and compassionate practitioner who is committed to achieving the best outcomes for children and young people with disabilities.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A recognised Social Work qualification and registration with Social Work England.
  • Significant post-qualifying experience within children's social care.
  • Experience of working with children and young people with disabilities and their families.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, safeguarding procedures and statutory guidance.
  • Experience managing complex Child in Need, Child Protection and Children in Care cases.
  • The ability to provide professional support, guidance and mentoring to less experienced colleagues.
  • Excellent assessment, analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with children, families and partner agencies.
  • A commitment to strengths-based, relationship-focused practice.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a supportive team.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
