Senior Social Worker - Fostering Team at Gateshead

Liquid Personnel is recruiting a Senior Social Worker for its client's Fostering Team at Gateshead.

About the Role

Our client, Gateshead Council, is seeking an experienced Senior Social Worker to join their Fostering Team. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a dedicated and supportive service committed to securing positive outcomes for children and young people through the provision of high-quality foster care. The team works collaboratively with foster carers, children, families, and partner agencies to provide safe, stable, and nurturing environments where children can thrive.

As a Senior Social Worker within the Fostering Team, you will play a key role in supporting and supervising foster carers, undertaking fostering assessments, and contributing to the ongoing development of the fostering service. You will also act as a source of expertise within the team, providing guidance and support to colleagues while ensuring the highest standards of social work practice are maintained.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a high-quality fostering service in line with statutory requirements, fostering regulations, and Gateshead Council policies and procedures.
  • Undertake assessments of prospective foster carers and present reports to fostering panels.
  • Provide ongoing supervision, support, and guidance to approved foster carers.
  • Ensure foster placements are appropriately supported to promote stability and positive outcomes for children and young people.
  • Work collaboratively with children, families, carers, and multi-agency professionals to develop and implement effective care plans.
  • Support less experienced social workers within the team through mentoring and sharing best practice.
  • Maintain accurate and timely case recordings, assessments, and reports.
  • Participate in regular supervision and contribute to service development initiatives.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
