Position Description

CGI UK | Gloucestershire | SC Clearance Required (DV Preferred)

Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance.

Your future duties and responsibilities

In this role, you will take ownership of architectural design and technical direction, shaping secure, scalable and efficient solutions across cloud and on-premises environments. You’ll work closely with clients, technical teams and key stakeholders to translate business requirements into practical technology capabilities, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives, security standards and organisational policies.

You’ll have the opportunity to influence critical decisions, introduce innovative approaches and drive improvements across the technology landscape. Supported by CGI’s collaborative community of experts, you’ll help strengthen technical governance, optimise performance and costs, and guide the successful delivery and evolution of business-critical services.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead & Design: Shape and guide the technical architecture of cloud and on-premises solutions, ensuring scalability, security and alignment with business needs.
  • Influence & Advise: Lead architectural discussions, resolve complex technical challenges and provide clear recommendations on technical direction.
  • Optimise & Improve: Identify and prioritise technical debt, cloud cost optimisation (FinOps) opportunities and security operations (SecOps) improvements.
  • Govern & Assure: Establish and maintain technical governance throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring architectural consistency and compliance.
  • Collaborate & Engage: Work with Information Assurance, Policy, Information Management and wider stakeholders to meet regulatory, legal and organisational requirements.
  • Shape & Deliver: Contribute to technical roadmaps, support requirements gathering and develop capabilities that deliver measurable client value.
  • Resolve & Strengthen: Coordinate technical incident response, driving effective resolution, root-cause analysis and continuous service improvement.
  • Support & Innovate: Contribute to wider client initiatives, share technical expertise and explore opportunities to improve processes and solutions.

Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role

To succeed in this role, you should have proven experience in software or solution architecture, with the ability to make informed technical decisions across complex environments. You’ll combine strong architectural knowledge with effective stakeholder engagement, a proactive approach to problem-solving and the confidence to take ownership of technical outcomes. You should be comfortable working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and adapting to evolving business and technology requirements.

Essential experience and capabilities:

  • Architecture Experience: Proven experience in software or solution architecture at SFIA Level 4 or 5, with the ability to lead or support complex technical design activities.
  • Cloud & On-Premises Technologies: Strong understanding of cloud and traditional infrastructure architectures, including integration, security and scalability considerations.
  • Technical Leadership: Demonstrated ability to influence architectural decisions, provide technical guidance and resolve complex design challenges.
  • Security & Compliance: Understanding of secure solution design, technical governance, information assurance and regulatory compliance.
  • Continuous Improvement: Experience identifying technical debt and opportunities to improve system performance, security, efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Incident Management: Experience supporting technical incident resolution, root-cause analysis and service improvement.
  • Security Clearance: Current UK Security Check (SC) clearance or eligibility to obtain it, with Developed Vetting (DV) clearance desirable.
  • Location: Based in Gloucestershire or within a commutable distance.
