Senior Software / Controls Engineer – High-Power Charging
Contract: 6 months
Location: Remote, with occasional travel to site as required Engagement: Contract
The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Senior Software / Controls Engineer to support a technically advanced engineering programme focused on high-power charging and electrification systems. This is a hands-on contract role requiring a strong combination of controls engineering knowledge and software development capability. The successful engineer will work closely with multidisciplinary electrical, software and systems engineering teams to develop, integrate and validate control functionality for high-power charging equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and optimise control strategies for high-power charging systems and associated power electronics/electrical equipment.
- Develop and maintain control software and models primarily using MATLAB/Simulink.
- Support software implementation, integration, commissioning and validation activities.
- Analyse system behaviour, troubleshoot controls/software issues and identify appropriate technical solutions.
- Work with electrical, systems and software engineers to ensure robust integration between hardware and control software.
- Support testing, verification and validation of control functionality against system requirements.
- Produce clear technical documentation covering software, controls and system behaviour.
- Provide specialist controls knowledge throughout development and commissioning activities.
- Travel to site when required to support integration, testing and commissioning.

Essential Experience
- Strong commercial experience as a Controls Engineer, Software Engineer or Embedded Controls Engineer within a relevant engineering environment.
- MATLAB/Simulink – essential, with the ability to develop, understand and modify complex control models.
- Demonstrable experience working with high-power charging equipment/systems.
- Strong practical understanding of control systems and control theory, with the ability to apply this knowledge to real-world hardware.
- Experience integrating and troubleshooting software/control functionality within complex electrical or electromechanical systems.
- Ability to operate independently and deliver effectively within a fast-paced engineering programme.

Desirable Experience
- C/C++ or other embedded software development experience.
- Embedded control systems and real-time software.
- Power electronics, HV systems, batteries, charging infrastructure or electric propulsion.
- CAN and other automotive/industrial communication protocols.
- Model-Based Design and automatic code generation.
- Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) or Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) testing.
- Experience within automotive, marine, aerospace, energy or other high-performance electrification environments.
Working Arrangement
The role can be performed predominantly remotely, with flexibility required to travel to site for key integration, testing and commissioning activities.
This would suit a senior engineer who can quickly get up to speed, operate with a high degree of autonomy and bring established high-power charging controls expertise to a technically demanding programme.
