Senior Developer

We are seeking a Senior Developer to join our cloud-native software engineering team responsible for building and operating a modern Azure-based platform and on-premise solutions in the Rail sector. The role combines development, technical direction, and development ownership, with a strong focus on Kubernetes, C#/.NET, and adoption of AI-driven capabilities across our products and services.

You will play a key role in defining the future technical roadmap, ensuring our platform remains scalable, secure, and ready to leverage emerging technologies, including AI and intelligent automation.

Technical Design & Architecture

  • Contribute to design, development, and implementation of cloud-based and edge-based software solutions using C#/.NET.
  • Recommendation of technical design decisions for complex systems spanning Azure-hosted services, distributed applications, and on-board software agents running on unmanned hardware.
  • Define and drive software architecture, ensuring solutions are scalable, resilient, secure, maintainable, and aligned with long-term business objectives.
  • Establish engineering standards, design patterns, and development best practices across teams.

Software Development & System Ownership

  • Take ownership of critical applications and services throughout their lifecycle, from design and delivery through to operational support and continuous improvement.
  • Lead the resolution of complex technical challenges, production incidents, and cross-system integration issues.
  • Drive performance optimisation, reliability improvements, and technical debt reduction initiatives.
  • Ensure applications meet high standards for performance, security, quality, and operational excellence.

Cloud, Infrastructure & DevOps

  • Work with infrastructure team on the design and evolution of Azure infrastructure, deployment strategies, observability, and operational practices.
  • Drive DevOps maturity through automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD enhancements, and deployment governance.
  • Establish monitoring, logging, alerting, and recovery strategies for cloud and edge-based systems.
  • Champion security, compliance, and resilience best practices across the software delivery lifecycle.

Distributed Systems & Messaging

  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable messaging and integration architectures using message-orientated architecture, event-driven patterns, and distributed systems principles.
  • Define communication standards and strategies for interactions between cloud services and remote hardware deployments.
  • Evaluate and the introduction of new technologies and architectural approaches where appropriate.
