About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Developer to join Raytheon’s dynamic team supporting the Army Collective Training Service (ACTS) programme. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to national defense by developing resilient, scalable, and secure cloud-native applications that enhance military training capabilities. As part of this mission-critical environment, you will work closely with software leads, architects, and cross-functional teams to design, develop, and maintain innovative software solutions that support the British Army’s strategic objectives.

This position requires a proactive individual with a passion for engineering excellence, a focus on security, and the ability to operate effectively within a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Your work will directly impact the future of military training, ensuring the British Army remains prepared and capable of facing evolving threats. The role involves integrating legacy systems, leveraging modern development practices, and deploying solutions across cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and MODCloud (OCP).

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 2 years of experience in full-stack development, with proficiency in modern frontend frameworks such as React or Angular, and backend technologies including Python, Java, JavaScript, Go, or.NET Core/.NET 5+. Strong expertise in containerization using Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes is essential, alongside experience deploying and managing applications on cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Oracle.

Experience with CI/CD pipelines utilizing Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Tekton, or Azure DevOps is required, along with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation. Candidates should be familiar with static and dynamic code analysis tools like SonarQube and Snyk, and possess a solid understanding of RESTful APIs for data ingestion and exposure. Security awareness, including knowledge of vulnerabilities, compliance standards, and security best practices, is also vital.

Applicants must hold or be eligible to obtain current SC clearance and demonstrate excellent communication skills, the ability to prioritize complex tasks, and a collaborative mindset. A background in software engineering or equivalent professional experience is preferred, along with familiarity with automated testing frameworks and performance tuning for high-throughput systems.

Responsibilities

  • Build secure, high-performance backend services utilizing languages such as Node.js, Python, Java, or.NET Core/.NET 5+.
  • Integrate APIs, databases, and third-party services to ensure seamless data flow and system interoperability.
  • Develop and maintain intuitive, responsive frontend interfaces using frameworks like React or Angular.
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable cloud-native software solutions, leveraging cloud services and infrastructure for resilience and efficiency.
  • Containerize applications using Docker and orchestrate deployments with Kubernetes, ensuring consistency across development, testing, and production environments, including Red Hat OpenShift.
  • Automate build, test, and deployment workflows through CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Tekton, or Azure DevOps.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using Terraform or CloudFormation to streamline infrastructure provisioning and management.
  • Participate in agile planning, estimation, and continuous improvement activities, supporting team collaboration and iterative development.
  • Conduct peer code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding standards, performance optimization, and maintainability, utilizing static analysis tools like SonarQube.
  • Establish and maintain comprehensive automated testing suites covering unit, integration, and end-to-end testing scenarios.
  • Design systems with observability in mind, integrating logging, metrics, and tracing to monitor system health and performance.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and security standards, ensuring solutions remain current and compliant.
  • Monitor, identify, and respond to vulnerabilities, maintaining security standards aligned with OWASP, NIST, and other relevant frameworks.
