Senior Software Developer - DVSA

Salary: £44,241 + Digital & Data Allowance up to £14,756 (£58,997 total potential package)

Additional: £4,000 London Weighting (Yeading/Uxbridge based roles)

Contract: Permanent

Grade: Senior Executive Officer (SEO)

Vacancies: 3

Locations: Bristol, Swansea, Leeds, Nottingham, Newcastle, Oldham (Chadderton), Birmingham (Garretts Green), or Uxbridge/Yeading.

The Opportunity

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is looking for experienced Senior Software Developers to help shape and deliver digital services used by millions across the UK. Working within Agile, multidisciplinary teams, you'll design, build, support and enhance high-impact digital products and platforms that improve road safety and public services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain digital services and software solutions.
  • Build APIs for internal and external users.
  • Deliver user-centred solutions focused on excellent customer experience.
  • Drive continuous improvement across systems and services.
  • Mentor and support developers, junior developers and apprentices.
  • Contribute to technical leadership and best practice.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience delivering digital services within Agile environments.
  • Strong front-end and/or back-end development skills.
  • Experience with PHP, TypeScript and/or JavaScript.
  • Strong understanding of software design principles.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring developers.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to senior stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of testing, troubleshooting production issues and web security.

Working Pattern

  • Full-time (37 hours) or part-time (minimum 30 hours).
  • Hybrid working with a minimum of 60% office attendance.
  • Occasional travel to other DVSA sites may be required.
