Position Overview
Build software that matters
We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Developer, Team Leader who combines strong engineering expertise, experience supporting a team, with an AI-first mindset.
This role is about more than writing code. You'll lead the design and delivery of modern software solutions across multiple Mitsubishi Electric businesses, turning complex requirements into secure, scalable and maintainable systems.
AI is changing the way software is designed, developed, tested and maintained. We believe the most effective engineers are embracing these tools as part of their everyday workflow whilst continuing to apply sound engineering judgement, critical thinking and accountability.
We're looking for someone who can demonstrate how they have successfully incorporated AI-assisted development into real-world software delivery and who is excited by the opportunity to help shape how modern engineering practices evolve within our organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development and delivery of full-stack applications from architecture through to production deployment.
- Drive technical decisions and delivery across projects, balancing business requirements, quality, security and long-term maintainability.
- Use modern engineering practices, including AI-assisted development tools and workflows, to improve productivity, quality and delivery outcomes.
- Translate complex business requirements into clear technical solutions and implementation plans.
- Review, test and validate software to ensure solutions remain secure, reliable and production-ready.
- Build AI-enabled capabilities where they create meaningful business value and improve user outcomes.
- Architect cloud-native systems using modern development, deployment and infrastructure practices.
- Promote high standards of software engineering through code reviews, mentoring, documentation and technical leadership.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to improve engineering effectiveness across the team.
- Become productive quickly in unfamiliar codebases, technologies and business domains.
- Take responsibility for, coach, and lead a team sharing your technical expertise for the benefit of them and the business.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What we mean by AI-first
AI-first does not mean blindly relying on generated code. It means understanding how and where AI can improve software delivery and using those capabilities deliberately across the engineering lifecycle whilst remaining accountable for quality and outcomes.
You may be using AI to support:
- Software design and solution discovery
- Prototyping and development
- Testing and quality assurance
- Documentation and knowledge sharing
- Debugging and problem resolution
- Automation of routine engineering activities
Most importantly, you can demonstrate where these approaches have delivered meaningful results and explain the judgement applied when deciding when to use them and when not to.
Required Qualifications/Certifications
- Significant professional software development experience with increasing responsibility and technical ownership.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical delivery and making architectural decisions.
- Strong experience delivering full-stack applications in production environments.
- Deep understanding of modern software engineering principles, system design and application security.
- Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, C# or Java.
- Experience with cloud platforms, containerisation, CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Strong debugging, analytical and problem-solving capability.
- Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools, automation or intelligent engineering workflows to improve software delivery outcomes.
- Ability to evaluate AI-generated outputs critically and maintain responsibility for production quality.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical decisions to varied audiences.
- The ability to assess new technologies critically and adopt them where they offer clear and sustainable value.
- Confidence communicating technical concepts, decisions and risks to a range of audiences.
- Experience leading a team through development projects and sprints.

- Take ownership of outcomes rather than relying on tools.
- Share knowledge and help others improve.
- Continuously look for better ways to deliver value through software.
Education
Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering or a related discipline is preferred; equivalent practical experience is welcomed.
