Senior Java Engineer

London – Canary Wharf

FTC – 9 Months (starting in September)
Up to 70K

We’re working exclusively with a well-established financial services organisation that is looking to add an experienced Senior Software Engineer to their payment project.

This is a great opportunity to join a business operating within a highly regulated, technology-driven environment, working on highly critical systems that underpin financial services and transaction processing within a regulated environment.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Designing, building and maintaining scalable APIs, cloud-native microservices and backend services.
  • Developing distributed and event-driven systems, using messaging and asynchronous processing.
  • Helping shape technical and architectural decisions, balancing long-term improvements with immediate delivery needs.
  • Supporting live production systems, troubleshooting issues and helping to improve reliability and operational resilience.
  • Collaborating with engineers, architects, product teams and business stakeholders to deliver effective technical solutions.
  • Mentoring and supporting other engineers, encouraging knowledge sharing and continuous development.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 4-5 years hands-on experience working with Java and/or Kotlin
  • Commercial experience with AWS (preferred), Azure or GCP.
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices and development automation.
  • Strong understanding of software testing (unit, integration, component, end-to-end and performance testing).
  • Strong understanding of backend development, RESTful APIs, microservices and distributed systems.
  • Experience across the JVM ecosystem and comfortable working with live production systems.
