Senior Software Engineer (Python / C++ | Robotics & AI)
Senior-level role on a cross-functional robotics and autonomous systems engineering team
Core stack: Python and C++, spanning embedded/edge through to AI/ML and simulation
Full-time, hybrid, Ireland-based
£60,000 - £80,000

About the Company
Our client is an engineering-led technology company working at the frontier of robotics, autonomous systems, and artificial intelligence. They build intelligent software across embedded and edge environments, bringing autonomous systems to life through close collaboration between hardware and software teams. The Role
You will join a cross-functional engineering team building software that spans the full stack, from low-level embedded control through to simulation, visualisation, and AI-driven decision-making. This is a senior role with real architectural responsibility… you will work alongside hardware and robotics specialists to define how systems are designed, not just how they are implemented. The team is small enough that your decisions carry weight and the work is complex enough that they need to. Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop robust, production-quality software systems in Python and C++
- Own and contribute to software architecture decisions across the full stack, from embedded edge devices to higher-level application logic
- Develop and deploy software for Raspberry Pi and similar single-board computing platforms
- Build and integrate simulation and visualisation environments, including tools such as Gazebo
- Design and integrate AI/ML components into robotics and embedded systems, covering perception, autonomy, decision-making, and predictive modelling
- Optimise AI/ML models for deployment on resource-constrained edge hardware
- Explore and apply generative AI and LLM-based tooling to development workflows and product features where appropriate
- Collaborate with hardware, robotics, data science, and QA teams to define technical requirements and system interfaces
- Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and contribute meaningfully to code reviews
- Support debugging and performance optimisation across software and hardware-integrated systems
- Contribute to technical documentation and architectural decision-making
What You'll Need
Essential:
- 5+ years of professional software development experience, with demonstrable seniority
- Strong proficiency in Python and C++
- Solid grounding in software architecture principles including design patterns, modularity, and scalability
- Hands-on experience developing for Raspberry Pi or similar embedded or single-board computing platforms
- Practical experience applying AI/ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn) to real-world problems
- Comfortable working in a Linux or macOS development environment
- Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows
- Right to work in UK

Nice to have:
- Knowledge of ROS or ROS 2
- Experience with simulation or visualisation tools such as Gazebo
- Familiarity with ArduPilot or the MAVLink protocol
- Experience deploying AI/ML models on edge or embedded hardware (model quantisation, TensorRT, ONNX, TFLite)
- Background in computer vision, sensor fusion, autonomous navigation, or unmanned vehicle systems (UAV, UGV, or USV)
- Experience integrating LLMs or generative AI tools into engineering workflows or products
