This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer to play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and cyber resilience of industrial control software systems across the Dounreay site, working on systems that truly matter.
What You'll Be Doing
You will be responsible for the effective operation, security, and lifecycle management of industrial control software systems, ensuring they remain safe, cyber secure, and fully operable. You will act as a key technical specialist, working closely with stakeholders and regulators, supporting system performance, and contributing to the design, commissioning, and continuous improvement of critical systems. Other key deliverables of the role are:
- Maintain configuration management and operational control of all industrial control software systems on site
- Support the site approach to cyber security risk for computer‑based systems important to safety and implement improvement actions
- Act as the main point of contact for system faults, repairs and obsolescence, coordinating timely and effective solutions
- Provide expert technical input into new and modified systems, including commissioning, training needs and lifecycle reviews

What You'll Bring
You will be a technically confident and solution‑focused engineer with strong IT and OT capability, comfortable working in a regulated, safety critical environment. You’ll bring a proactive mindset, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage complex technical challenges effectively.
- A solid engineering background (degree or equivalent) with significant experience in IT and/or OT systems
- In‑depth knowledge of industrial control technologies such as SCADA, HMI, PLCs and RTUs, alongside core IT infrastructure
- Good understanding of cyber security principles, regulatory requirements and system safety
- Strong organisational, problem solving and communication skills, with the ability to perform under pressure
- Post specific capability analysis assessment
