Senior Software Engineer: Sports Betting
Up to £120,000 + Bonus + Excellent Benefits
London – 5 Days On-Site | Python | Java | AI | Low Latency | Distributed Systems
Build software where performance, mathematics and real-time decision-making genuinely matter. We're partnering with a highly technical sports betting business continuing to invest in its engineering function. They're looking for Senior Software Engineers to work on complex backend systems operating across real-time data, quantitative problems and high-performance distributed architecture. This is an opportunity for engineers who enjoy difficult technical problems rather than simply delivering features or maintaining an existing codebase. You'll have significant technical ownership, contribute to architectural decisions and work alongside engineers tackling problems around latency, scalability, reliability and large-scale data processing.
The Role
You'll join a highly technical engineering team building and evolving systems used within a quantitative sports betting environment. You'll work across:
- Designing and building scalable backend services
- Developing primarily with Python and Java
- Building low-latency and high-throughput systems
- Processing large volumes of real-time data
- Developing distributed and event-driven architectures
- Building integrations with external platforms and APIs
- Optimising system performance and reliability
- Solving complex scalability and concurrency problems
- Contributing to system architecture and technical direction
- Working with cloud-native infrastructure and containerised applications
- Applying strong analytical and mathematical thinking to engineering problems
- Working alongside teams using AI and machine learning within the wider technology environment

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
