Senior Software Engineer – Onsite – Gloucester or Manchester, United Kingdom

Raytheon UK has a full-time, permanent opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team on our Manchester or Gloucester sites. You’ll be part of an experienced software development function, working in a cross-functional team to design, develop, and deploy critical software across diverse business areas. Essential clearance (Ultimate Secret sets baseline benchmark) will be required, along with security vetting, including eDV clearance.

In this environment, we prove DevSecOps at scale, leveraging Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, cyber, and geospatial intelligence capabilities to support the defence, intelligence, and cyber sectors. Collaborating with customers and suppliers, you’ll deliver secure, mission-critical systems using the latest technologies and innovations.

  • Design and build sophisticated software using industry best practices
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and engineers to ensure alignment and quality
  • Contribute to the completion of project milestones and deadlines

Desired Skills and Experience

Technical Competencies:

Core Software Engineering:

  • Proficient in JavaScript (React, NextJS)
  • Strong understanding of TypeScript
  • Python expertise

API and Frameworks:

  • REST API development
  • Experience with OpenAPI/Swagger
  • Experience with OpenAPI/Swagger

Cloud & Infrastructure:

  • Cloud service platforms (AWS or Azure)
  • Containerisation & Orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift)
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible)
  • Familiarity with cloud-bound environments and practices

Data & Search Technologies:

  • Relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL)
  • Elasticsearch (or OpenSearch)

Testing & Quality:

  • Unit testing and automation
  • Familiarity with testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, Cypress)

Experience and Collaboration:

  • Experience working in Agile delivery teams
  • Use and familiarity with code repositories (e.g., GitLab)
  • Experience with branching strategies, pull requests, and merging

Location and Role Requirements

Classification of Role:

  • This position is classified as Onsite.

  • Onsite Roles: Employees will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, who are essential to the development of RTX’s products. Commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.

Qualification Criteria:

Requires advanced knowledge of work area typically obtained through one of the following:

  • A University Degree (or equivalent experience) combined with at least 5 years of prior relevant experience, or
  • An Advanced Degree in a related field with minimum 3 years of experience

Relevant degree fields typically include Engineering/Technical Positions requiring degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) combined with 5 years of minimum relevant experience (unless prohibited by local laws/regulations).
