Senior Software Engineer

Birmingham, UK | Hybrid or Remote
Up to £75,000 + Benefits

We’re working with a growing technology business that is looking to add an experienced Senior Software Engineer to its engineering team.

This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys taking ownership of software, working across the stack and contributing to technical decisions rather than simply delivering isolated tickets. You’ll join an established engineering environment with plenty of opportunity to influence how the platform develops as the business continues to grow.

The Role

You’ll work across frontend and backend development, contributing to new functionality as well as improving and maintaining existing systems. The role will involve:

  • Designing and developing production software across the full stack.
  • Building and enhancing modern web applications.
  • Developing APIs and backend services.
  • Working with relational databases and data models.
  • Contributing to cloud-based infrastructure and deployment.
  • Investigating technical issues and improving application reliability.
  • Working alongside QA to ensure robust, well-tested releases.
  • Participating in technical design and architecture discussions.
  • Reviewing code and contributing to engineering standards.
  • Taking ownership of features throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Helping identify opportunities to improve existing systems and processes.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for an experienced engineer who is comfortable operating with a high degree of ownership. You'll ideally have:

  • Strong commercial software engineering experience.
  • Excellent JavaScript / TypeScript skills.
  • Experience developing modern frontend applications, ideally using React or a comparable framework.
  • Strong backend experience with Node.js or a similar technology.
  • Good SQL and relational database experience.
  • Experience working with cloud technologies.
  • A solid understanding of APIs and application architecture.
  • Experience with automated testing and CI/CD.
  • Strong Git-based development experience.
  • Experience working across the complete software development lifecycle.

The exact technology stack is less important than your ability to understand systems, write quality production code and take responsibility for what you build.

The Person

We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys engineering.
You should be comfortable:

  • Getting up to speed with an existing system.
  • Working independently and making sensible technical decisions.
  • Tackling problems where the answer isn't immediately obvious.
  • Moving between frontend and backend when required.
  • Taking responsibility for the quality of your work.
  • Collaborating effectively with engineers, QA and wider stakeholders.
  • Improving existing approaches rather than accepting them blindly.

This is a role where engineering judgement and ownership matter just as much as individual technologies.

Why Consider It?

You'll have the opportunity to join a growing engineering function where your experience can have a genuine impact. Rather than being restricted to a narrow technical area, you'll have visibility across the wider development lifecycle and the opportunity to influence how software is designed, built and improved.

If you're an experienced Full Stack Engineer looking for a role with genuine ownership and the opportunity to make a difference, I'd be keen to hear from you.
