Senior Software Engineer
What we're building
Lifted is fixing one of the UK's most broken sectors: care. We've built compliance and immigration tech that helps care providers hire both locally and internationally, while automating the painful Home Office requirements, right-to-work checks, and all the paperwork that usually makes this take months. We're now expanding our product surface area. We're not a typical recruiting platform, we're infrastructure for the entire sector.
Why this matters
Care is one of the most understaffed, overstretched sectors in the UK, and most of that strain comes down to broken infrastructure, not broken intent. Providers spend months on paperwork instead of care. Workers face visa and compliance processes that can derail their ability to work at all. Every delay here has a real person on the other end of it, a care worker whose visa is stuck, a provider one inspection away from losing their ability to operate, a resident who needs staff that aren't there because hiring took too long.
The impact you can have at Lifted is real and meaningful. When you ship something here, you can trace it directly to someone's job, someone's care, someone's ability to stay in the country they've built a life in. That line of sight, from code to consequence, is rare and it's the reason most of the team is here.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
The role
We need senior engineers who can own features end-to-end - from understanding the problem through to shipping the solution.
What that looks like
- You'll work directly with stakeholders to understand what needs building,
- You'll start with feature goals, and have ownership of implementation details through to roll out,
- You'll make pragmatic scope decisions when trading off speed vs completeness,
- You'll ship features that directly impact our users.
What support looks like
- You'll work collaboratively with the team - you'll have real problems to work on from week one, not just orientation tickets,
- You'll work with the broader team to align on priorities,
- You're not alone, but trusted to drive things forward.
What you'll actually be building
- Conversational AI - screening and supporting candidates through finding a job, onboarding, and throughout their career,
- Process automation & document intelligence - OCR, extraction, and validation across onboarding and auditing workflows,
- Third-party integrations - Home Office, CQC, and the other systems this sector runs on,
- Greenfield development - we're expanding into new parts of the market, which means new product surfaces, as well as extending what exists,
- Scale problems - as we grow from seed to Series A and beyond, the systems that got us here need to hold up under real load and complexity.

What we're looking for
You should apply if you:
- Have built and shipped production systems before (we need senior-level judgment),
- Have experience at the startup-to-scale transition - managing technical debt, building for scale, and keeping things reliable as they grow,

- Are energised by early-stage environments where things are still being figured out.
