A global business is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to be the senior technical lead its product teams build around, in C# and.NET throughout.
This is a lead role on a small central team that works like internal consultants to the rest of the engineering function.
You would drop into delivery teams across the business, sometimes for a few hours, sometimes for up to six months, to help them shape an architecture or build the part that needs a stronger hand. You would not be there to keep the lights on. You would come in to guide the design, write the code that proves it, and leave the team stronger than you found them.
The work moves across teams rather than sitting inside one. You would see codebases at every stage of life and put each team's needs ahead of your own, because that is the job. These teams welcome the high-level input when they need it, and a big part of the role is building the relationships so they know when to call you in. It is C#/.NET throughout, spanning six teams so you would build a view across the whole technology estate. Alongside the support work you would run a small number of projects of your own.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What you would own
- The architecture calls on the teams you drop into, shaped with them, then the hardest part of the build once the direction is set
- The judgement of when a team needs a few hours of input and when it needs you embedded for months
- A small number of your own projects, run alongside the support work
- The relationships with the delivery teams, built so they reach out at the right moment rather than too late
- The technical bar across the teams you touch, held through the example your own work sets
What they are looking for
- Strong C#/.NET, with the depth to step into a codebase you have not seen before and add value quickly
- A background of shaping architecture while still writing the code, whether your title said lead, principal or the senior everyone leaned on
- A self starter who stays flexible, comfortable switching context between teams and problems
- The people skills to build trust with teams who invite you in rather than report to you
- Azure across App Services, Functions, Service Bus, Event Grid, Blob, Table and Queue storage, Azure Batch and Application Insights
- Both sides of the data layer, Azure SQL and document stores such as Cosmos DB
- CI/CD, test automation and observability as part of how you work
- Architecture you can stand behind, reached by weighing the trade-offs, with the restraint to keep it simple when simple will hold
