Location: Manchester, Lancashire | Onsite

The Opportunity

Raytheon UK seeks a full-time, permanent Senior Software Engineer to join our Manchester or Gloucester team. In this role, you’ll:

  • Design, build, and deploy critical software systems across defense, intelligence, and cyber domains
  • Validate and advance security-focused software engineering (DevSecOps at scale)
  • Adopt modern technologies for AI/ML, cyber resilience, and geospatial intelligence
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with customers, suppliers, and stakeholders

Responsibilities

Core Duties

  • Build and maintain secure, mission-critical software using best engineering practices
  • Partner with colleagues and external teams to refine technical direction and workflow
  • Contribute to product roadmaps, milestones, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Optimize deployment pipelines and enterprise architecture through devops collaboration

Key Requirements

  • University degree (or equivalent experience) in STEM + 5+ years’ software engineering or
  • Advanced degree in related field + 3+ years’ experience

Technical Expertise

  • Programming: JavaScript (React/NextJS), TypeScript, Python
  • Backend/APIs: RESTful development, OpenAPI/Swagger documentation
  • Infrastructure:
    • Cloud (AWS/Azure)
    • Containers/Kubernetes (Docker, OpenShift)
    • IaC (Terraform, Ansible)
    • Databases (PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch/Opensearch)
  • Testing/QA: Unit/integration test automation (Jest, Cypress, Mocha)
  • DevOps/Pipeline: CI/CD best practices, CI tools (Jenkins, GitLab)
