Senior C# Software Engineer – Cloud & Microservices
Remote | Central London office (few trips a year)
We’re working with a growing technology business looking to hire an experienced Senior C# Software Engineer to join its software engineering team.
This is a hands-on development role for someone with strong commercial software engineering experience in C#/.NET, with experience building cloud-native, microservices-based applications.
The engineering team operates in an AI-native environment, with AI-assisted and agentic development tools embedded into the software development lifecycle. Strong practical experience using AI-assisted development tools in a commercial software engineering environment is essential.
You’ll be designing and developing complex production software, contributing to key architecture and technical design decisions, and helping shape how the platform evolves as the business continues to grow.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for:
- Designing and developing complex, production-grade applications using C# and.NET
- Building and evolving cloud-based microservices and distributed systems
- Designing scalable, resilient and maintainable services and APIs
- Working with Azure, Docker and Kubernetes
- Designing modular, reusable components using SOLID and modern engineering principles
- Working with messaging technologies and distributed application architectures
- Taking ownership of performance, scalability, reliability and maintainability
- Refactoring and modernising existing applications and services
- Developing secure, robust software capable of handling demanding production workloads
- Writing automated tests and following TDD/BDD principles
- Conducting code reviews and helping maintain high engineering standards
- Working with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices
- Using AI-assisted and agentic development tools as an integral part of day-to-day software engineering
- Helping shape how AI development tools are adopted effectively while maintaining engineering quality

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

See breakdownIt searches the market for you
Every day your agent scans the market matching roles against what actually matters to you, not just keywords on a CV.
Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
The role is explicitly hands-on rather than a line-management position, although there is scope to take greater technical/team leadership responsibility over time.
What We're Looking For:
You’ll need to be a strong software developer first and foremost, with significant experience building complex commercial applications.
Ideally you'll have:
- Expert-level C# and .NET
- Strong commercial experience building cloud-based microservices
- Experience designing and working with distributed systems
- Strong Azure experience
- Commercial experience with Kubernetes and Docker
- Strong practical experience using AI-assisted development tools in a commercial engineering environment
- Experience using AI to support areas such as coding, debugging, refactoring, code review, testing and development productivity
- An understanding of how to use AI/agentic development tools responsibly without compromising code quality
- Experience with messaging technologies within distributed architectures
- Strong REST API/service development experience
- Experience with asynchronous programming, concurrency and multi-threading
- A strong understanding of software architecture and design
- Experience contributing to architecture discussions and technical direction
- Experience designing scalable and resilient production systems
- Strong understanding of SOLID principles and maintainable software design
- Automated testing experience using xUnit, NUnit or MSTest
- CI/CD and ideally Azure DevOps

Why Consider It?
This is an opportunity to join a growing technology business where you'll have genuine influence over how software is architected and built, rather than simply picking up development tickets.
You'll remain hands-on with C# while having input into architecture, technical direction, engineering standards and the evolution of a modern cloud platform.
You'll also be joining an AI-native engineering environment where AI-assisted development isn't treated as an occasional productivity tool, it's becoming an integral part of how the team designs, builds, tests and improves software.
