We are currently looking for two Senior Software Engineers (Backend Focus) to join our team
Join Our Engineering Evolution at Twinkl
At Twinkl, we're not just building software - we're transforming how millions of educators and learners interact with educational content and resources worldwide. We offer a unique proposition: the massive global scale of an established educational publisher combined with the agile technological footprint needed to accelerate that mission. Backed by equity partners who are actively invested in our growth, we are expanding into high-value global markets, making this a pivotal time to join our journey.
We are in the midst of an exciting transformation, rebuilding our core platform from the ground up using React, Next.js, TypeScript, and Node.js alongside serverless AWS cloud architecture. Crucially, we do this within a genuinely collaborative, supportive, and inclusive team environment. We believe that everyone in the room has a voice, every opinion carries weight, and every engineer has the opportunity to drive impact. We trust our teams to make the right technical decisions and own their solutions in a safe, open setting.
What will you be doing?
- Technical Architecture & Delivery: Partner closely with our existing Senior Engineer and Engineering Manager to lead system design, re-architecture, and delivery across key platform initiatives.
- Coaching & Mentorship: Act as a supportive mentor for the team, coaching engineers through technical challenges and helping them upskill as they get familiar with our replatformed tech stack and architectural patterns.
- AI-Integrated Engineering: Utilise modern AI tools as an everyday part of your development workflow. We actively embrace AI across the organisation and are rolling out Claude to enhance productivity, code quality, and technical experimentation.
- Building Scalable Backend Systems: Re-architect legacy areas of our platform into modern, serverless microservices that deliver educational tools to teachers and students across every time zone.
- Fostering an Inclusive Culture: Help maintain an open, psychologically safe environment where team members feel confident speaking up, sharing ideas, and collaborating openly.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
