The Insolvency Service, in partnership with Inspire People, is looking for a Senior.NET Developer to join its Digital Services team and help modernise and improve a portfolio of digital services used by colleagues, businesses and the public. Permanent role, salary £48,429 - £57,722 (based on assessment at interview), 29% employer pension contribution plus full Civil Service benefits. Flexible, hybrid working from 9 UK locations.
About the Senior Developer role
This role will join the Digital Services team, part of Change and Technology Services within the Insolvency Service, supporting enterprise applications used by internal teams, external organisations and the general public.
The team is consolidating its technology stack and moving away from legacy services, with a growing focus on Microsoft.NET 10 and Azure. This is a strong opportunity to help modernise digital services, influence technical approaches and contribute to a more sustainable, user-centred technology environment.
The role will also contribute to the ongoing improvement of a portfolio of live digital services, helping reduce technical debt, improve consistency across the technology estate and support faster, more effective delivery of future change.
Responsibilities of a Senior Developer
- Design, develop and maintain secure, accessible and maintainable applications across enterprise digital services.
- Deliver functionality against agreed user stories, acceptance criteria and Agile delivery objectives.
- Take ownership of code quality through automated testing, peer reviews, defect prevention and addressing technical debt.
- Contribute to architectural discussions, engineering standards, reusable components and common development approaches.
- Support live services through incident resolution, releases, deployments, documentation and ongoing continuous improvement.

Essential criteria for a Senior Developer
- C# and.NET development experience within modern web applications.
- Experience of modern engineering practices including TDD/BDD, automated testing, CI/CD and DevOps.
- Good understanding of integration approaches including APIs, real-time, scheduled, batch and messaging services.
- Experience working with cloud-based IaaS and PaaS solutions, alongside strong knowledge of secure and maintainable software development.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to contribute to technical discussions, share knowledge and support colleagues.
Desirable criteria for a Senior Developer
- Experience working with Microsoft Azure services such as Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, App Services, Function Apps and AI Search.
- Knowledge of clean architecture, OOP, SOLID, RESTful APIs and GitHub-based development workflows.
- Experience of GOV.UK standards, including the Service Manual and Technology Code of Practice.

Additional Requirements
- Expectation is to spend 60% of your working time in one of the offices.
- This role operates under the flexible working hours agreement, supporting a positive work-life balance
- The post is subject to SC level clearance, a requirement for which you must have resided in the UK for a minimum of 5 years.
- The Insolvency Service does not currently hold this licence and therefore cannot legally sponsor Skilled Worker visa applicants.
