Senior Product Engineer
Remote (1x day in the office in Liverpool per month)
£55,000 - £62,000 base + benefits
We’re looking for a Senior Product Engineer to join a growing product-focused engineering team. This would suit a strong mid-level engineer with around 3–5 years’ commercial experience, or someone who has recently stepped into a Senior position and is ready for greater ownership and responsibility.
You’ll remain hands-on, working across the platform while taking ownership of significant technical areas, contributing to architecture and helping shape how the wider engineering team works. The role combines software development with technical ownership, customer interaction and mentoring. You’ll have the opportunity to influence projects from early-stage ideas through to production and beyond.
This is an opportunity for an engineer who is ready to take the next step — whether that means moving from a strong mid-level position into a Senior role or building on recent Senior-level experience with greater technical ownership.
The successful candidate will be skilled in Java, Node, React and strong in AWS and be willing to learn and develop in new skills as required.
What you’ll be doing
Engineering & Delivery
- Develop and review production-quality software across the platform.
- Take ownership of technically complex work and deliver it through to production.
- Break larger problems into clear, achievable pieces of work.
- Maintain ownership across multiple projects and development cycles.
- Look for ways to improve how the team builds, tests and releases software.

Technical Ownership
- Take responsibility for the architecture and technical direction of key areas of the platform.
- Make pragmatic decisions around data, integrations, security, scalability and system design.
- Contribute to design reviews and challenge approaches where appropriate.
- Identify technical debt and put practical plans in place to address it.
- Make sound technical decisions when requirements or information are incomplete.
Quality & Reliability
- Help establish strong standards around testing, CI/CD, observability and release processes.
- Review code and designs while helping maintain a consistently high engineering standard.
- Take an active role in resolving incidents and implementing improvements to prevent recurrence.
- Encourage engineering practices that make quality part of the development process.
Customers & Product
- Be comfortable engaging directly with customers and understanding their requirements.
- Contribute to technical scoping, feasibility and pre-sales discussions.
- Provide realistic views on technical risk, cost and timescales.
- Help balance customer requirements, commercial value and technical considerations.
- Identify opportunities and problems that could influence future product development.
Mentoring & Leadership
- Support and mentor less experienced engineers through reviews, collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- Act as someone the wider team can approach for technical guidance.
- Help maintain engineering standards and contribute to technical decision-making.
- Support hiring, interviewing and assessment where required.
- Provide additional technical leadership when the Lead Product Engineer is unavailable.

What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone with:
- 3–5 years’ commercial experience building and delivering production software.
- A strong mid-level background or someone who has recently progressed into a Senior Engineer position.
- Demonstrable ownership of projects, features or technical areas beyond simply completing assigned tickets.
- Experience making technical or architectural decisions within production environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively with changing priorities.
- Good communication skills and confidence working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A genuine interest in product development and the commercial reasons behind what is being built.
- Experience mentoring, supporting or technically leading other engineers would be a strong advantage.
- Experience with either AWS or Salesforce is required.
Technical Experience
We’re particularly interested in candidates with experience across AWS including:
- Serverless architecture
- API Gateway
- Lambda
- DynamoDB
- S3
Desirable
- Vector databases and RAG frameworks
- Docker/containerised applications
- CI/CD
- Node.js
- AWS certifications such as Solutions Architect or ML Specialty
