Senior Software Engineer – Java, TDD and Continuous Delivery
Up to £180,000
Canary Wharf – three days per week
A senior software engineer with deep experience of Java and TDD is sought for a new engineering initiative at a major investment bank.
The mission is to help development teams release software more frequently and safely by improving the applications and processes that hold them back.
These are hands-on, targeted engagements with teams working on large, established systems. The engineer will investigate what is slowing delivery, work within the codebase and implement the changes needed. Around 70% of the role involves coding and configuration.

Depending on the project, the work could include:
- Building automated test suites that run locally and in deployment pipelines
- Containerising applications and improving their integration tests
- Introducing continuous delivery and better source control practices
- Upgrading Java runtimes, libraries and other dependencies
- Automating deployments and improving observability
- Helping teams resolve security vulnerabilities more quickly
The essential background is several years of hands-on TDD, strong software engineering skills in a JVM language, and experience improving CI/CD on substantial projects. Docker, Kubernetes or OpenShift, Linux, build tools such as Gradle or Maven, and secure coding practices are also important.

This role will suit an engineer who can join an established team, understand a complex application and make significant improvements by writing code and working alongside its developers. Spring, TypeScript and Ansible experience would be useful.
