Senior Software Engineer

Location: Stevenage

Salary: £40,000–£75,000 depending on experience

Working Pattern: Dynamic Hybrid – typically 3–5 days per week onsite due to workload classification

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Senior Software Engineer to join a leading defence engineering organisation, working on innovative and mission-critical technology that supports the development, production and testing of advanced missile systems.

This role offers the opportunity to work within a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment, collaborating closely with Software Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Systems Engineering and Test & Validation teams to develop reliable, high-performance software solutions.

The Opportunity:

  • Develop software solutions for complex and mission-critical test environments
  • Work across a diverse portfolio of projects supporting the development, production and field testing of missile systems
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams across Software, Electronics, Electrical, Systems Engineering and Test & Validation
  • Apply strong analytical and design skills to solve complex technical challenges
  • Support software development through effective review, critical analysis and documentation
  • Embrace DevOps and other innovative technologies as the organisation continues to evolve
  • Contribute directly to product certification, manufacturing output and support activities

What We're Looking For From You:

  • Strong software development experience using C, C++ or ADA
  • Software or electronics engineering background, with transferable skills into software development for test solutions
  • Excellent analytical, design and problem-solving abilities
  • Experience conducting technical reviews and critical analysis
  • A flexible and proactive “can do” approach to solving complex technical problems
  • Ability to develop reliable, high-performance, standardised and well-documented software
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple disciplines and stakeholder groups
  • A genuine interest in working on novel technologies where software is time and mission critical
