Job Purpose
We have a new opportunity for a Senior Flutter Engineer at Obviously Group Limited, a subsidiary of RWS Holdings. The role has been created to strengthen our engineering capacity and make sure we can continue evolving and enhancing our product suite.
You will play a key part in driving forward the development and progression of our three core applications, delivering new features, improving performance and maintaining a modern, scalable front-end experience. Alongside delivery, we are looking for someone who will help shape the technical direction of the Front End team, raise the bar on architecture and code quality, and bring the shared patterns across our applications closer together.
By adding senior capability to the team we will be able to accelerate delivery, increase our responsiveness to product needs and ultimately improve overall client satisfaction across the portfolio.
Please note that this is a hybrid role to either our Norwich or London office.
Job Overview
Key Responsibilities
Delivery and technical craft
- Lead the design and delivery of Flutter front-end features across the three Obviously applications, from requirement through to release.
- Write clean, maintainable and well-tested Dart and Flutter code, and set the standard that the rest of the team works to.
- Own architectural decisions within the front-end estate, making sure they are documented, understood and applied consistently.
- Translate product, design and client requirements into polished, responsive and accessible user experiences.
- Maintain consistency across the three apps, including reusable components, shared patterns and reliable integration with services and APIs.
- Support release readiness through debugging, testing, performance tuning, documentation and issue resolution.
Team and technical leadership
- Act as a senior voice in the Front End team, bringing considered opinions and constructive challenge.
- Mentor and develop less experienced engineers through code review, pairing and knowledge sharing.
- Raise the quality bar in code reviews and help the team reach pragmatic technical decisions.
- Lead by example in estimation, planning, stand-ups, reviews and retrospectives.
- Give and receive feedback openly, using reviews and retrospectives to improve ways of working.
- Contribute to team documentation, reusable examples and onboarding material for new joiners.
- Take ownership of your own development and stay current with Flutter, mobile and front-end engineering practice.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Commercial and stakeholder awareness
- Work closely with product, QA, backend and client-facing colleagues to clarify requirements, manage dependencies and deliver agreed outcomes.
- Understand the commercial impact of delivery choices, balancing speed, quality, maintainability and client priorities.
- Provide realistic estimates and flag risks or blockers early, so that scope, cost and timelines can be managed effectively.
- Identify and drive down technical debt and rework across the application estate, making the case for investment where it is needed.
- Communicate technical choices, trade-offs and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Substantial commercial experience as a front-end or mobile engineer, with significant time spent building and shipping production Flutter applications.
- Deep working knowledge of Flutter and Dart, including widgets, layouts, state management, navigation and asynchronous programming.
- Strong understanding of front-end application architecture, API integration, responsive UI, accessibility and cross-platform delivery.
- A track record of technical ownership: making architectural calls, standing behind them and being accountable for the outcome.
- Experience mentoring or technically leading other engineers, whether formally or informally.
- Experience working in a multi-disciplinary product or engineering team, across more than one app or shared codebase.
- Experience integrating front-end applications with backend APIs, authentication, analytics and other application services.
- Confident with agile delivery, version control, testing approaches and release processes for production applications.
- Excellent debugging, problem-solving and code review skills, with the ability to explain technical choices clearly.
- Confident collaboration skills, including communicating estimates, risks, trade-offs and recommendations.
Nice to have
- Some experience with the React framework, or another comparable web framework.
- Experience with Flutter testing, CI/CD pipelines, app store or web release processes, and monitoring production issues.
- Familiarity with design systems, reusable component libraries, accessibility standards or localisation and globalisation considerations.
- Knowledge of native iOS or Android development, common state-management libraries or automated testing frameworks.
