Lead Software Engineer (Java)
Manchester (Hybrid) - £70,000 - £80,000 + Benefits
Java | AWS | JavaScript | Microservices | REST APIs
We're building a new UK engineering team for an established European fintech business and are looking for a Lead Software Engineer to help shape the future of a modern life & pensions platform.
You'll initially work on projects in Denmark and the Netherlands to gain product knowledge before helping drive new UK implementations and contributing to the growth of our Manchester-based technology function.
What You'll Work On
- Designing and building REST APIs and microservices
- Developing and integrating solutions within complex enterprise environments
- Contributing to architecture decisions and the UK technology roadmap
- Driving quality through automated testing, CI/CD and performance optimisation
- Collaborating with colleagues across the UK and Europe
- Mentoring engineers and supporting the growth of the development team

What You'll Bring
- Strong commercial experience with Java and modern software development practices
- Experience building microservices and REST APIs
- Exposure to AWS and cloud-native architectures
- Knowledge of CI/CD, automated testing and DevOps approaches
- Previous experience in a lead, senior or mentoring capacity
- Experience within pensions, insurance, financial services or fintech would be advantageous
- Degree qualified or equivalent commercial experience
