We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team based in Exeter

Kier Design are a highly regarded Tier 1 Contractor, with a 750 plus strong design consultancy team, recognised as a Top 30 employer on Glassdoor.

Location

Exeter / remote

Hours

42.5 per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.

Salary

starting from £50,000 per year

Are you…

  • Able to independently take ownership of technical work from initial requirements through design, implementation, testing and delivery
  • Experienced with SQL and designing relational database schemas, relationships, constraints and data models
  • Proficient in Python with experience developing backend applications, services, integrations or automation in production environments
  • Comfortable working with complex datasets, making decisions around how data should be structured, validated, transformed and maintained
  • Experienced in consuming or developing REST APIs and integrating software with internal or third-party services

What will you be responsible for?

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll be working within the Development team, supporting them in delivering technical solutions and maintaining operational services.

You'll have the autonomy to take ownership of projects from initial requirements right through to delivery, working collaboratively with stakeholders to design and implement solutions that make a real difference. Much of the work involves large and complex geographic datasets, so you'll need to be comfortable working with both data and software, making key decisions around data models, database design and system architecture. You'll also play an important role in maintaining and improving existing production services, ensuring they remain reliable and efficient.

Your Day To Day Will Include

  • Taking ownership of technical workstreams from initial requirement through solution design, development, testing and implementation
  • Designing, developing and maintaining backend applications, automation and geospatial data-processing solutions
  • Working with stakeholders to understand requirements and recommend appropriate technical solutions
  • Designing and evolving database schemas, data models and supporting processes
  • Investigating and resolving complex technical issues affecting live services, implementing sustainable fixes
