Senior Software Engineer – Architecture & Algorithms

Role Overview
As a Senior Software Engineer focused on architecture and algorithms, you will:
- Define software architecture and design core measurement, data-analysis, and signal/image-processing algorithms for surface profilers, thin-film analyzers, sheet resistance, and nanoindentation instruments.
- Leverage cutting-edge AI/ML/DL techniques while adhering to best practices in software engineering, performance optimization, and security.
- Work at the intersection of hardware integration, scientific computing, and real-time systems to accelerate semi-conductor, medical, and materials sciences industries.
Key Responsibilities
Software Architecture & Lifecycle Management
- Deliver well-defined features or components under high-level guidance, including work estimation, risk assessment, and scheduling.
- Own and evolve the software architecture, defining:
- System- and subsystem-level requirements, interfaces, and specifications.
- Key design decisions driven by performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Guide design reviews and integrate stakeholder feedback, including input from subject matter experts (SMEs).
Algorithm Development & Optimization
- Design, implement, and optimize core algorithms for:
- Measurement systems (3D surface profiling, thin-film characterization, electrical property analysis).
- Data analysis, signal/image processing (numerical methods, edge detection, feature extraction).
- High-performance multithreaded code for real-time applications.
- Prototype and benchmark algorithms for accuracy, precision, and computational efficiency.

Software Development & Best Practices
- Develop C#/.NET and C++ applications for data processing, algorithm implementation, and instrumentation control.
- Write clean, maintainable code adhering to internal coding standards and company security policies.
- Leveraging AI-assisted tools responsibly within secure environments.
- Build and maintain unit/integration tests to ensure robustness.
- Use profiling tools to improve execution speed, memory efficiency, reliability, and security.
Problem-Solving & Collaboration
- Troubleshoot system/subsystem issues using logs, experiments, and diagnostics.
- Contribute to root-cause analysis, propose fixes (with supervision), and implement preventive measures.
- Collaborate with global teams (US, Europe, Asia) on system integration and software releases.
- Present technical findings clearly to interdisciplinary stakeholders (engineers, customers, suppliers).

- Occasional travel (<10% of working time) to KLA offices, customer sites, or conferences.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in:
- Computer Science
- Software Engineering
- Electrical/Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering
- Physics
- Mathematics
- + Significant relevant experience (or equivalent through a Master’s/Doctoral degree).
- Proven track record in software engineering fundamentals:
- Software architecture design (microservices, modular sistemas, event-driven systems).
- Data structures & algorithms with demonstrated optimization experience.
- Multithreaded programming (concurrency, synchronization, performance tuning).
- Unit/integration testing and debugging methodologies.
- Familiarity with design patterns (e.g., MVC, Observer, Factory).
- Technical proficiency:
- Microsoft .NET stack: C#, VB.NET, Microsoft Visual Studio.
- C++ (constraint-based algorithms, numerical computations).
- Version control: Git (GitHub/GitLab).
- Adherence to software design and coding standards.
- Effective communication:
- Present complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Cross-cultural collaboration (global teams spanning US/Europe/Asia).

Preferred
- Experience in architecture design for complex subsystems and influencing technical roadmaps.
- Scientific/computational background:
- Applied mathematics, numerical methods, statistics, or scientific computing.
- Experience with AI/ML/DL implementations (e.g., CNNs for image analysis, regression modeling for measurement data).
- Signal/image processing expertise (e.g., FFT, wavelets, decomposition techniques).
- System diagnostics & observability:
- Improving performance profiling, logging, tracing, and metrics collection.
- Software UX skills:
- Wireframing, prototyping, and user flow design for measurement software.
- Works well with ambiguity and under tight deadlines in agile/cloud environments.
