Senior Software Engineer (Data)
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Data) based in United Kingdom.
This is an opportunity to join a lean, autonomous engineering team building products that help organizations better understand and optimize cloud data costs.
You’ll play a key role in designing and delivering new capabilities across backend systems, data engineering, visualization, and cost-management workflows.
The position offers meaningful ownership, with the opportunity to shape technical direction and influence the product roadmap.
You’ll work closely with experienced engineers and founding team members in a fast-moving environment where pragmatic decisions and customer impact matter.
From data pipelines and transformation models to resilient application components, your work will directly improve the product experience.
The role is ideal for a self-directed engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, moving quickly, and owning features from concept through release.
You’ll also have the flexibility and autonomy of a distributed team that values collaboration, continuous learning, and sustainable ways of working.
Accountabilities
- Design and build new product capabilities focused on data cost management, including forecasting, anomaly detection, cost allocation, and related workflows.
- Develop reliable and reusable backend and data-engineering solutions that surface actionable insights for customers.
- Build data pipelines and transformation models that support new product capabilities and identify opportunities for optimization.
- Create and improve data visualization features that communicate performance, query timing, efficiency, and other important metrics clearly.
- Develop resilient, reusable UI components that contribute to a smooth and intuitive product experience.
- Improve application reliability, scalability, and performance through thoughtful engineering practices and system design.
- Own features end to end, from identifying problems and shaping requirements through technical design, implementation, testing, and release.
- Evaluate technical and product tradeoffs to prioritize high-impact solutions and deliver meaningful customer value efficiently.
- Collaborate closely with engineers and senior stakeholders through clear proposals, documentation, code reviews, testing, and effective communication.
- Contribute to a culture of pragmatic execution, continuous improvement, and strong engineering quality.

Requirements
- 5+ years of relevant software engineering experience, with strong expertise in backend development and data engineering.
- Strong working knowledge of Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, dbt, Dagster, and Snowflake.
- Solid understanding of system design and the ability to develop scalable, reliable technical solutions.
- Experience building data pipelines, transformation workflows, backend services, and data-driven product capabilities.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a distributed environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take ownership, and remain accountable for outcomes from initial concept through delivery.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with sound judgment when balancing speed, technical depth, and customer impact.
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving and evolving environment where priorities and requirements may change.
- Strong collaboration skills and a commitment to readable, maintainable code, clear documentation, and thorough testing.
- A proactive, curious, and positive approach to engineering, with genuine enthusiasm for solving challenging problems.
- Familiarity with FinOps, cloud infrastructure cost management, data-warehouse management, or observability is a plus.
- Previous experience working in an early-stage startup or similarly lean engineering environment is advantageous.
