About Pikl

Pikl is on a mission to enable the growth of digital marketplaces, starting with vacation rentals. We design and deliver insurance-enabled solutions that help platforms, property managers and owners unlock new revenue and deliver better customer experiences.

Founded in 2016, we began by protecting individual hosts and homeowners with specialist holiday-let cover. That experience now powers our insurance-enabled products, which increase participation, lift conversion and drive revenue across the marketplace value chain: platforms, homeowners and guests.

With offices in Norwich and London, and plans for international expansion, we work with some of the most recognised brands in travel as well as major insurance aggregators.

About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to build and run the systems behind Pikl's insurance products and partner integrations.

Working collaboratively with Product and Platform colleagues, you'll work in a modern TypeScript stack: Next.js, React, Express, MySQL, and AWS. You'll own major services and features from data model to deployment, and you'll help shape how we build and scale the platform as it grows.

You will:

  • Design and implement backend services and APIs in Express and TypeScript. Build reliable, maintainable, and well-structured services that integrate cleanly with our broader platform.
  • Contribute to and influence our Next.js and React applications. Work closely with frontend engineers to ensure a cohesive full-stack experience.
  • Own significant technical components end to end. From data modelling in MySQL to deployment on AWS, you will be accountable for quality and long-term maintainability.
  • Use AI tools as part of your everyday engineering. Apply AI tooling to design, implementation, testing, and debugging, while remaining accountable for the quality, security, and maintainability of what you ship.
  • Help us build agentic workflows for the engineering team. Contribute ideas and implementations that automate repetitive work with sensible guardrails and human oversight.
  • Make thoughtful technical decisions within our stack. Help define patterns for service structure, state management, data access, and testing.
  • Review and improve system design. Provide guidance on performance, reliability, and scalability in a cloud-based environment.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

About You

Strong hands-on experience with TypeScript and backend development. Ideally with Express or a similar Node.js framework.

Experience designing and building APIs and services that use relational databases. Comfort working with MySQL, schema design, and query performance.

Familiarity with AWS. Experience working with services such as EC2, ECS, RDS, S3, Lambda, or similar is preferred.

Experience working in a modern JavaScript/TypeScript frontend environment. Familiarity with React or Next.js is a strong plus.

Practical experience using AI coding tools in your day-to-day work. You can talk about where they help, where they fall short, and how you check their output.

Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions. You can work effectively with product and non-technical stakeholders.

Bonus points for:

  • Experience building or scaling production Next.js applications.
  • Background in integrations with external platforms or carrier systems.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or AWS CDK.
  • Experience building agentic workflows or automations to improve engineering productivity.

If you are unsure whether you meet every qualification, do not self-select out. Talent and impact come from many backgrounds, and we are more interested in your ability to think, architect, and lead than in checking every conventional box.
