Job Description:

We are hiring an L5 Software Development Engineer (contractor) in London to join the Prime Video Edge Platform team.

The Edge Control team accelerates builders by centralising undifferentiated effort, providing a suite of capabilities to safely control and configure Prime Video clients. We ensure client interactions with Prime Video's global infrastructure are reliable, cost-efficient, measurable, and fast. Our services enable safe management and release of client configurations, delivery of push notifications, and power the end-to-end observability and intelligent client-driven traffic routing with automated failover capabilities. We accelerate teams across Prime Video in deploying native AI solutions through providing a remote platform to rapidly and reliably host remote MCP tools.

You will work within the Edge Control team to build and operate mission-critical services using AWS-native technologies at scale.


What You'll Do

  • Design, build, and extend features to the remote MCP platform to accelerate Prime Video teams
  • Work on Operational Efficiency and maintaining availability and security
  • Participate in on-call rotations and operational excellence practices

Basic Qualifications

  • Professional software development experience
  • Proficiency with Java, Kotlin and TypeScript
  • Experience designing and building distributed systems or backend services
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS — e.g., EC2, NLB, ElastiCache, Lambda, DynamoDB)
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code (AWS CDK)
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (DNS, HTTP/TLS, load balancing)
  • Experience operating and maintaining production software, including monitoring, alarming, and incident response
  • Linux/UNIX proficiency (command-line tools, shell scripting)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with high-throughput, low-latency systems at scale
  • Advanced coding skills including concurrency, profiling, and performance optimisation
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
  • Experience with security at the network edge (DDoS protection, authentication protocols, TLS termination)
  • Demonstrated best-practice software engineering: unit testing, code reviews, refactoring, continuous deployment
