Senior Software Engineer (Motorsport)

Catapult is a world leader in sports performance technology, serving over 2,900 teams across 40 sports. We improve the performances of many of your favourite athletes using wearable tracking technology, video and data analysis systems, and athlete management products. Our technology offers objective solutions to sport-based challenges and can be found in the NFL, NHL, NBA, AFL, NRL, Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga, and many more.

In Motorsport, Catapult’s SBG Race Management and Team Strategy systems are the technology of choice for elite-level organisers and competitors worldwide, including: Formula 1, Formula E, IndyCar, NASCAR, WEC/Le Mans, and other endurance racing.

Customers include:

  • The FIA (in F1, F2, F3, F1 Academy, FE and WEC)
  • Nine Formula 1 teams, including the 8-time World Champion Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team
  • The majority of Formula E teams
  • Winners of multiple Le Mans 24-hour races (Audi, Porsche, Toyota)
  • Teams and organisers in IndyCar and NASCAR

We have major offices in: UK (London, Leeds) | USA (Boston) | Australia (Melbourne) and multiple smaller global offices.


About the Role

We’re looking for a talented and enthusiastic Senior Software Engineer (Motorsport) to grow our Motorsport development team as we expand RaceWatch products into new series and tackle new challenges.

Based in London, you’ll be a key player in developing new capabilities in RaceWatch, particularly for endurance racing strategy, while also contributing across different racing series. You’ll help delivery the highest quality experience for our high-performing athletes by improving their performance, ensuring our customers have the best platform available.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll:

  • Lead in a fast-paced environment with tight project timelines from conception to deployment.
  • Drive our products and processes forward.
  • Act as a mentor and technical leader for other team members.
  • Work closely with the team to anticipate and exceed customer needs.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the development of RaceWatch software for one or more motorsport series.
  • Collaborate with product managers and customers to design features and prioritise tasks.
  • Identify ways to innovate and add new features to the software.
  • Guide the team to meet customer needs, setting the technical vision.
  • Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code, ensuring best practices.
  • Maintain code quality, organization, and software reliability throughout development.
  • Foster a growth mindset, encouraging idea-sharing and continuous improvement.
  • In some cases, assist in covering live motorsport events on weekends.

What You’ll Need

Essential:

  • A passion for Motorsport.
  • 5+ years working in a fast-paced technical environment, delivering software to customers.
  • Strong background in building applications using C/C++.
  • Experience developing, scaling and supporting products through their full lifecycle.
  • Ability to work with complex data and problem-solve at scale.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical teams, as well as customers.
  • A commitment to going above and beyond to support the customer.
  • Willingness to cover live motorsport events at weekends, rotating shifts as required.
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills in a dynamic work environment with fluid priorities.

Nice-to-Haven:

  • Degree in computer science or relevant scientific/technical subject.
  • Prior experience in motorsports (bonus—but technical skills are the priority).
  • Understanding of challenges faced by motorsport officials and teams in event management.
  • Experience with Catapult’s RaceWatch software product.
  • Familiarity with ticketing and project management platforms (e.g., JIRA, Monday).
  • Experience developing Windows applications in Visual Studio.
  • Background processing video and other media.
