Contract Senior Python Backend Engineer

Inside IR35

Duration: 12 months

Location: Predominantly remote with occasional Canary Wharf visits

Start: September onwards

We are looking for an experienced Contract Senior Python Backend Engineer to join a major financial-services programme for an initial 12-month engagement. The project involves building and supporting Python applications, APIs, and integrations connecting a ServiceNow Change Management platform with multiple internal enterprise systems. You do not need to be a ServiceNow Developer. The key requirement is strong, recent Python back-end engineering experience combined with APIs, system integrations, and automation. Previous ServiceNow or ITSM exposure would be beneficial but is not essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop Python applications, services, and REST APIs
  • Build integrations across enterprise platforms and distributed systems
  • Automate operational and Change Management processes
  • Develop maintainable, tested, and production-ready code
  • Create unit and integration tests
  • Contribute to CI/CD and deployment automation
  • Troubleshoot production issues and improve application reliability
  • Work closely with architects, product owners, and engineering teams
  • Provide technical leadership and support junior developers

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to join a major financial-services programme where your work will have a genuine impact on how critical enterprise systems communicate and operate. You’ll tackle complex Python engineering challenges, build integrations used across a large global organisation, and work alongside experienced architects and engineers.

You’ll have the flexibility of predominantly remote working, while gaining valuable experience within a highly regulated, enterprise-scale environment. There is also scope to influence technical decisions, introduce engineering best practices, and mentor other developers.

You do not need previous ServiceNow experience. If you are a strong senior Python back-end engineer with API and integration experience, the team is interested in speaking with you.

The role is predominantly remote, but occasional attendance in Canary Wharf will be required. Ready to find out more? Apply today with your latest CV.
