Insight Global are seeking a Senior Software Developer for a leading global financial services organisation.
This position requires 5 days onsite per week in London, England for an Inside IR35 contract.
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining Java-based backend applications across the full software development lifecycle. This role offers the opportunity to work on a range of initiatives including legacy platform migrations, greenfield development, platform upgrades and optimisation of data strategies. The position is highly hands-on, requiring daily coding and close involvement in software design, architecture and problem solving.
Must-Have Requirements Include:
- Strong enterprise-level backend software engineering experience
- Demonstrable Core Java development experience (JDK 8+)
- Strong understanding of Core Java concepts and design patterns
- Experience leveraging AI tools and technologies to support software development
- Strong understanding of software design concepts and data structures
- Advanced debugging and troubleshooting capabilities
- Proficiency in Object-Oriented Design and Development
- Strong experience building and consuming RESTful web services
- Experience working within Microservices architectures
- Strong understanding of database technologies
- Experience with relational databases, ideally DB2
- Ability to write and analyse complex SQL queries involving multi-table joins and aggregate functions
- Experience taking ownership of technical delivery and solution design

- Design, develop and maintain scalable Java-based backend applications
- Deliver end-to-end software solutions across the full development lifecycle
- Support legacy platform modernisation and migration initiatives
- Contribute to greenfield application development projects
- Optimise and enhance data flow strategies across applications
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver technical solutions
- Participate in architecture discussions and system design activities
- Debug, troubleshoot and improve existing codebases
- Ensure applications are scalable, reliable and maintainable

Ideal Candidate:
- Strong hands-on engineer who spends the majority of their time coding
- Comfortable owning technical problems from design through delivery
- Demonstrates excellent understanding of data structures, algorithms and software design principles
- Able to work independently on complex projects without relying on highly prescriptive task lists
- Experienced in building new solutions, not solely enhancing or supporting existing platforms
- Familiar with containerisation and deployment processes using Kubernetes and Docker
