Salary: Up to £95,000 Working Pattern: 1 day onsite p/w Industry: Renewable Energy

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer with strong backend experience, ideally working with Go, to join a growing technology team building and evolving a highly scalable software platform.

You’ll work on complex, technically challenging systems that sit at the intersection of software, energy, infrastructure and real-time data. The platform enables users to manage sophisticated assets, respond to changing market conditions and optimise performance through intelligent technology.

Working within an agile, cross-functional environment, you’ll have a high degree of autonomy and the opportunity to make a genuine impact on the development of the platform and the wider business.

This is a hands-on engineering role, with opportunities to provide technical leadership, mentor other engineers and contribute to the longer-term technology strategy.

The core technology stack includes:

  • Go / Golang for backend services
  • AWS and cloud-native infrastructure
  • Microservices architecture
  • Cassandra and TimescaleDB
  • S3 / Athena and data lake technologies
  • Apache Pulsar for messaging
  • RESTful and WebSocket APIs
  • GitLab for source control and CI/CD
  • Continuous integration and continuous delivery practices

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership within the engineering team, helping to design, build, maintain and evolve critical platform components.
  • Develop high-quality, scalable backend services using Go and modern software engineering practices.
  • Work on complex technical challenges involving distributed systems, data and cloud infrastructure.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of a highly available, reliable software platform.
  • Help define and deliver the longer-term technology strategy and platform roadmap.
  • Work closely with Product, Engineering and other business stakeholders to understand requirements and identify effective technical solutions.
  • Take ownership of technical problems and drive solutions through to delivery.
  • Mentor and support other engineers, helping to develop a strong engineering culture.
  • Champion engineering best practices, continuous delivery and pragmatic technical decision-making.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and identify opportunities to improve the platform.
  • Work collaboratively within an agile, cross-functional team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
