Senior Software Engineer - Go (would consider Python)
Manchester or Knutsford | Hybrid (2 days per week onsite)
£60,000 - £95,000 + Bonus + Excellent Benefits
We're working with a major financial services organisation looking to hire a Golang Software Engineer to join a growing engineering team delivering large-scale platforms and business-critical software.
This role combines hands-on software engineering with technical leadership, making it ideal for someone who enjoys building scalable systems while helping shape engineering standards, architecture decisions, and best practices across the wider team.
While the primary language is Go (Golang), we're also open to strong backend engineers from Python, Java or similar backgrounds who are excited to work extensively with Go.
The Role
You'll be building and enhancing high-performance software that supports critical business and technology platforms. Working closely with engineers, architects and product teams, you'll help design, develop and evolve scalable solutions used across the organisation.

You'll contribute to technical decision-making, mentor other engineers, and play a key role in driving engineering excellence across the team.
What You'll Be Doing
- Building high-quality backend applications using Go
- Designing scalable, secure and resilient software solutions
- Developing and improving APIs, services and distributed systems
- Collaborating with product, architecture and engineering teams
- Driving code quality through testing, reviews and best practice
- Supporting cloud adoption and modern engineering approaches
- Contributing to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Mentoring engineers and sharing technical knowledge
- Helping shape technical direction and solution design
What We're Looking For
- Commercial software engineering experience using Go (Golang), or strong experience in Python, Java or another backend language with a desire to work in Go
- Experience building scalable applications and distributed systems
- Strong understanding of software design principles and architecture
- Experience with cloud platforms and modern engineering practices
- Knowledge of CI/CD, automation and DevOps tooling

Nice To Have
- Experience within financial services or other regulated environments
- Exposure to AI, data or platform engineering initiatives
- Experience modernising legacy applications
- Knowledge of containerisation and cloud-native technologies
